We have an exciting opportunity for a Ward Manager on the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI).

MCSI at RJAH is one of 11 specialised Spinal Injuries Centres in the UK designated to receive and treat spinal cord injured patients.  The centre of excellence serves a catchment of approximately 10 million from North Wales, Mid Wales, South Mersey, Cheshire and The West Midlands. MCSI provides a lifelong service to a current population in excess of 3,500 patients and admits on average 380 patients per year, of whom approximately 120 are in the acute phase of injury/first episode of rehabilitation. Approximately 1,500 patients have a full outpatient follow-up review each year.

### Main duties of the job

You will deliver direct patient care whilst, managing, leading, co­ ordinating, overseeing nursing practice and carries 24 hour continuing responsibility for the co-ordination and monitoring of all clinical activities within their designated clinical area.

You will be responsible to ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of all resources required to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.

The post holder will be expected to support management of service delivery in accordance with the directives set in the Organisations business plan. Utilising the ward resources to promote excellence in practice and promotes and expedites quality issues relevant to the service delivery.

They will work closely as part an extensive wider clinical multi-disciplinary community, along with Spinal Injury Consultants, Specialist Physiotherapists, Nurses, and Health Care Support Workers within MCSI.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be accountable and responsible for maintaining own nursing practice. The post-holder will be able to underpin applied theoretical knowledge to practice utilizing analytical and judgmental skills in a variety of situations to determine direct patient care.

To be responsible for the delivery of patient centered care. Maintaining own specialist knowledge and clinical skills within the field of Spinal Cord Injury, participating in direct patient care and uphold evidence for revalidation as required by the NMC. The post-holder must be able to demonstrate extremely developed dexterous skills during clinical practice and the capability to manage periods of moderate physical effort during the shift.

Ensure a patient/ client-focused approach to care.

Work with consultants and members of the wider MDT to enhance the patient journey.

Provide dynamic leadership for the nursing, ward clerks and housekeeper team and acts as a role model.

To be responsible for monitoring and coordinating activities within the designated area over the whole 24-hour period.

- Act as named lead for Risk Management in ward area. To manage pay and non-pay budgets within allocated resources.  Effectively manage "off duty" requests so as to ensure optimum flexibility for staffing on the ward whilst optimizing the "Improving Working Lives" Strategy.
