Following an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department at St Mary’s Hospital as an Emergency Department Matron. St Mary's is the Major Trauma Centre for North West London.

As an Emergency Department Matron, you will lead the delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate care, support the implementation of new ways of working, and collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise in emergency nursing, excellent patient assessment skills and sound management knowledge. They will provide visible, consistent leadership, communicate effectively and build positive working relationships across the department and wider organisation.

The post holder will be professionally accountable for standards of care, patient experience, workforce performance and staff wellbeing, helping to shape a service that delivers consistently high standards for patients and colleagues.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide professional leadership and clinical role modelling in order to inspire the nursing team in the Emergency Department.
- To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership, providing a highly visible and authoritative presence, in order to facilitate the provision of high quality care, ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
- To support the Lead Nurse / Business Service Manager in the delivery of a high quality patient focused care which contributes to the patient’s overall experience.
- To deputise as required for the Lead Nurse or Business Service Manager to develop and embed procedures, guidelines and protocols to support the development of a safe and efficient service.
- To monitor the level of service provided by the support services through regular audit and take remedial action as necessary.
- To supervise the professional development and appraisal of staff through their line management structure
- To take responsibility for clinical standards of care Monitoring of Quality Indicators, infection control prevention and patient experience.
- To foster a culture of incident reporting and responding to incidents, reflection, equal opportunity, openness, mutual respect between the professions and professional development within the unit
- To support the development of nursing research and audit
- To ensure that mechanisms are in place for the collection and submission of appropriate data in respect to service delivery.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Leadership skills.
- Understanding of Microsoft office including Excel and Powerpoint and other software tools

### Education

**Essential**

- RN level 1
- Degree in Nursing or Equivalent
- Post registration qualification in Emergency Nursing

**Desirable**

- Masters in relevant healthcare topic
- Leadership/Management Qualification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience in Emergency Care as a Band 7
- Experience of budget and resource management
- Experience of Clinical Governance, patient safety, patient experience and clinical effectiveness
- Experience of effective leadership
- Work within the scope of the NMC Code Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives.
