If you have experience in major trauma and are keen to develop your leadership skills then this Ward Matron role may be right for you.

Join our excellent team at one of London’s busiest major trauma centres as Matron of a 19 bedded ward, caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord and column injuries, orthopaedic and plastic injuries, cardiothoracic injuries, tracheostomy care and more.  From low level falls to major incidents, our patient cohort is challenging and diverse and we need the right leader to support this.

### Main duties of the job

- As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral and discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care.
- Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trust’s evidence based procedural documents.
- To have local open and transparent communication channels that support the ward team to do the right thing for people we care for, to be bold when they have good ideas and to speak up when things go wrong.
- Act as a clinical expert within sphere of work.
- Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff.
- Ensure staffing is in line with Trust policy.
- Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively.
- Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
- Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of: leading and developing a teams, budget management, quality assurance, change management

**Desirable**

- ProjectManagement skills

### Education/ qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse (level 1)
- Post registration qualification in speciality
- Educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level or equivalent experience
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
- Management certificate or equivalent experience

**Desirable**

- Graduate

### Skills/knowledge/ abilities

**Essential**

- Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
- Ability to lead a large team
- Team building skills
- Capable of working strategically (business planning, service improvements, strategies for infection control)
- Maintain accurate records

- Ability to undertake root cause analysis
- Service improvement experience
