### Job overview

We are recruiting a Matron for Critical Care to join the wider established team of Matrons within the ITAPS Clinical Management Group (CMG).

This is an exciting  opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to Lead the Glenfield AICU.  Glenfield is a leading Cardiac Centre and also cares for patients from the following specialties, ECMO, Respiratory and  a variety of surgical specialties.

The post holder will be an expert registered clinical practitioner and hold a post registration critical care course qualification. You will work closely with the Matrons, Deputy /Head of Nursing/HR Leads and the ITAPS Management Team to deliver the critical care at the GH site and work closely with our other critical care areas.

You will set and maintain the highest standard of clinical care by providing leadership to staff, promoting quality care and ensuring safe clinical practice.  You will possess excellent communication skills and an ability to keep to deadlines working collaboratively with the other HDU/ICUs across the city and where required the region.

Individuals will be part of the wider Matron / Lead Practitioner team so contribute to other activities across ITAPS and of course working closely with Matrons, Nursing, AHP and medical leads will be essential. There will be a requirement to undertake the Matron of the day role for the CMG.

### Main duties of the job

Responsible for, in conjunction with relevant boards and committees, interpreting National Agendas/Guidance and devising, developing and implementing a range of operational policies in line with Trust wide needs for specific field of responsibility.

Responsible for managing the budgets of all designated clinical areas and maximising the utilisation of nursing and AHP resources.

Directly responsible for the line management of all areas for which accountable and for the provision of leadership and direction to Ward Leaders within those areas.

Responsible for agreeing, monitoring and devising methods to improve standards of clinical and non-clinical care, ensuring the highest standards are continually met.

Visible and accessible for staff, patients and families to turn to for assistance, expert advice and support.

Engage with patients and relatives utilising national and local surveys, one to one and group communication, engage with patient forums and patient advisors to determine patients and carers needs and wants, have a full understanding of patient experience and develop action plans at a CMG level to ensure a positive patient experience and the highest standards of care are achieved.

Engage in nursing/clinical activity on a regular and frequent basis. This may include all clinical duties specific to the relevant sphere of expertise.

The Matron for Critical Care is accountable to the Head of Nursing to support the effective and efficient operational management of the CMGs non-medical workforce (nurses, operating department practitioners and all clinical support staff) ensuring delivery of high quality patient care services and effective use of the resources available.

This will include ensuring effective coordination and where appropriate management of budgets and agreed performance objectives and contracts as well as working closely with Recruitment Services, the Matrons and General Manager on business planning and the development and continuous improvement of patient care processes.

- Significant post-registration experience including ward or unit management experience

### Education/ Qualifications

**Essential**

- Adult / Child / Midwife NMC Registered Practitioner ( HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner dependent upon post if for theatres)
- Evidence of a post registration critical care course.
- Evidence of post-registration professional knowledge acquired through Diploma / Degree or above supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master’s degree level equivalent
- Evidence of recent post-graduate / qualification professional development
- Evidence of accredited management / leadership training or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
- Have successfully completed an NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or Practice Assessor programme or equivalent
