## Job Content

### Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 3 Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) with an NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) to join the Maternity Teams at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As one of the largest tertiary maternity units in the UK, we support approximately 8,000 births each year across a wide range of specialist services. As a Maternity Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and woman-centred care. You will support women, birthing people and their families across the full maternity pathway, including antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and community settings. Working under the supervision of a registered midwife, you will contribute to high-quality, holistic care for mothers and newborns, following appropriate training and competency sign-off. The role requires flexibility to work shifts including weekends, nights, and Bank Holidays, and the ability to travel between hospital and community sites.

### Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Band 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to woman-centred care. The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s), and it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training. The employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal inpatient or outpatient care, intrapartum inpatient care, postnatal inpatient and outpatient care and community. The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies; including the Care Certificate. This certificate ensures the minimum standards for the role are met and further training will be given to ensure completion of the Level 3 Skills Passport within a given timeframe. Opportunities will be available to employees to further develop their skills and explore pathways for progression where appropriate. Please see job description for further information.
