### JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will:-

Deliver a high quality effective and efficient mammography and plain imaging service

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing the highest standards of patient care.

Provide supervision and guidance to all junior members of staff.

### KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Delivery

Perform all examinations to the highest quality with adherence to the departmental protocols and procedures including, Ionising Radiation Regulations (1999) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations NI 2018 and local Departmental Rules.

Ensure imaging requests are justifiable and the clinical information provided facilitates the appropriate imaging techniques being employed.

Maintain professional standards of specialist technical ability acquired through degree or diploma and the post-graduate certificate in mammography.

Ensure the safe use and maintenance of highly specialist imaging equipment and adhere to all departmental safety procedures.

Possess excellent hand eye coordination and manual dexterity, to position patients with a high degree of accuracy and speed.

Ability to assist the radiologist and Advanced Practitioners during Stereotactic Breast Interventional procedures.

Support the Modality Lead for Plain Imaging/Principal Lead Mammographer in achieving a smooth and efficient patient workflow.

Participate in audit, service improvement, reflective practice and risk management to ensure optimum standards of care.

Attend post-registration training and education courses as and when required.

Clinical Responsibilities

Perform digital mammography on patients to produce consistently high standards of clinical imaging which comply with National Health Service Breast Screening Programme standards and local guidelines.

Perform high standards of radiography in other areas within the Radiology department.

Demonstrate the ability to function competently as a member of the Breast multi-disciplinary team

Be responsible under the Quality Assurance programme in the area of work, this includes equipment performance, accurate documentation and the reporting of any results outside acceptable limits.

Act as a coach and supervise radiographers/trainee mammographers, assistant practitioners, radiographic assistants and students on a daily basis.

Required to maintain a high personal standard of clinical excellence.

Assess patient understanding of proposed imaging examination and gain informed consent or work within the required legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to examination.

Maintain privacy and dignity.

Maintain good communication with patients/clients and relatives/carers ensuring that their individual needs are met and address any issues which have been identified.

Take responsibility for overseeing the ordering and receiving of medicine/drugs in line with the Trust Medicine Management Policy, including overseeing and countersigning orders undertaken by non-registered staff

Responsible for ensuring clinical areas are clean tidy and safe.

Professional Responsibilities

Be aware of and act in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and Codes of Conduct.

Keep up to date with current issues and developments in breast imaging and care.

Demonstrate commitment through regular attendance, efficient completion of duties and participation in departmental team work activities.

Participate in staff induction and mandatory training as required.

Maintain HCPC registration and provide evidence of details.

Undertake an annual staff appraisal conversation and associated Personal Development Plan.

Alert line manager to any conflicts of interest in respect of other employments undertaken.

Ensure that the Trust behaviours are upheld at all times. Poor behaviour will be challenged as appropriate in the workplace.

Knowledge of the QSI process and assist in the departmental preparation for inspection.

Awareness of and adherence to the expectations cited in Staff, Patient and Children’s Charters.

The radiographers should have an understanding and knowledge of the patient’s condition and how it affects their life.

Staff should be aware of their responsibilities for keeping patient’s confidences at work and outside work. They should act with discretion to prevent patient information being shared inappropriately.

Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times.

Staff should ensure that chaperones are available at all appropriate times and if requested by a patient.

Provide a safe environment for patients which is compliant with legislation and good practice.

Acknowledge and respond to the differing needs and values of patients taking account of factors such as culture, religion, age, disability and gender identity.

Help patients feel at ease during their contact by taking steps to maintain privacy, dignity and security.

Respect patient’s wishes where possible and practical.

Staff will offer patient’s an explanation in the event of the imaging examination being interrupted outside of an emergency.

Be responsible for minimising infection, this should include appropriate decontamination of equipment and knowledge of specific processes in place to manage patients who have contagious diseases or those who are immune- suppressed.

Adhere to Regional Dress Code Policy the purpose of which is to maintain health, safety and security of patients, service users and staff and to prevent the spread of infection.

Ensure effective and economic use of resources and the safe working order of all equipment.

Report all near miss/ incidents and record on the DatixWeb portal.

Deal with verbal complaints at a local level, and refer unresolved or written complaints to a senior colleague.
