We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Maintenance Apprentice to join our Estates Department. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while working towards nationally recognised qualifications in a supportive healthcare environment.

As a Maintenance Apprentice, you will work alongside skilled technical staff, developing your practical abilities and learning the essential skills required to maintain and support the Trust's buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.

As part of your apprenticeship, you will:

- Undertake trade-related apprenticeship training to achieve a minimum Level 3 Craft Qualification in your chosen trade.
- Complete additional qualifications and training up to Level 3 within your main trade discipline.
- Undertake further training and qualifications up to Level 2 in an alternative trade to develop multi-skilled working capabilities.
- Gain practical experience across a range of maintenance activities while being supported by experienced professionals.

We are looking for someone who:

- Has a keen interest in engineering, maintenance, or building services.

- Has good practical and problem-solving abilities.
- Can work effectively as part of a team and communicate confidently with colleagues.

- Undertake minor installation work according to skill level and training.
- Support the wider Estates team by providing multi skilled trade capabilities for minor works including electrical, mechanical and building related tasks.
- Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance work and minor repairs within the level of competence and skill that the post holder is able to demonstrate and/or evidence.
- Carry out such duties as may be delegated by the Team Leader, should be able to work amicably with all other trades, and should be willing to assist these trades if required.
- Undertake continuous professional development and training to enhance and improve skills, capabilities and crafts / engineering knowledge.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Apprentices support qualified Craftsperson’s in the maintenance, operation, and repair of systems. They assist with duties such as installation, fault finding, repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the effective operation of equipment and estates. The level of direct involvement and autonomy will typically scale across an apprentice’s employment in line with their skill, experience and training level.

The nature of hospital work sites ranges from commercial level infrastructure through to industrial level infrastructure and therefore requires all operatives to possess a high degree of training and expertise in its maintenance and operation. In addition to this, many of our customers are vulnerable adults and children, whom may be more susceptible to injury, harm or death should these operations or maintenance functions be poorly or incorrectly undertaken.

The purpose of incorporating apprentices within the team is to provide a pathway for non-qualified individuals to enter the National Health workforce and attain the skills, qualifications and experience required to be considered a competent craftsperson, with the result yielding to progression opportunities and a potential career. Training typically takes 3 or more years to complete before being ready for promotion.

Please refer to the JD/PS for full detailed job description and responsibilities.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
