### Job overview

To coordinate and support the delivery of the UHD Macular Service, working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care, effective pathway management, and positive treatment outcomes throughout their macular journey.

### Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive support and coordination of the Macular Service.

To ensure the smooth running of the sub-speciality, working closely with the consultant, and the macula team.

To adhere to NICE guidelines in the management and delivery of patient pathways.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Liaison directly with patients, staff and visitors on a daily basis requires a high standard of care and commitment. Awareness must be maintained that often patients may be anxious or distressed and must be dealt with the utmost sensitivity and respect.
- Close communication with the Consultants and staff within the service to ensure that clinics run smoothly and are filled
- Manage urgent requirements for patients needed same day appointments/assessments;
- Take accurate information from referrals. and self-referrals from existing ophthalmology patients, to enable clinician to grade referral appropriately.
- Track all follow up patients in the Macular pathway to provide assurance that appointments are within clinically led timelines
- Managing complex queries with timetables and planning, requiring discussion and negotiating with clinicians, using persuasive and communication skills where needed.
- Analyse daily clinic capacity and organise the rebooking of any cancelled clinics slots as appropriate, ensuring any breaches are avoided and ensuring that capacity is used

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of co-ordinating a macular service
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

**Desirable**

- Experience of NHS working.
- Experience of producing reports and minutes of meetings.

### Qualifications

- - Educated to diploma level or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience/ knowledge

### Technical skills
