### Job summary

We are looking for a Trust Grade Doctor with excellent personal values and commitment to patient care. You will be part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team at Cofton ward, helping patients progress in their care pathway towards the community. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to join a friendly, supportive and experienced team. The post holder will work directly with an experienced Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist.

The role will appeal to individuals who wish to have a challenging but satisfying workload and to be part of an established, highly regarded service.

You will be supported in developing excellent relational security skills and risk assessment and management of patients, majority of whom have come in contact with the criminal justice system due to their mental health difficulties. Opportunities will be there to get trained in structured professional judgement tools like HCR-20 and DUNDRUM. You will be part of an excellent medical peer group who are very supportive. Close supervision and help will always be available. You will be supported to engage in CPD, audit and QI projects. You will also be supported to engage in projects that are in alignment with the directorates vision and needs.

This is a fixed-term role for 12 months.

### Main duties of the job

Your primary duties will include responding to the mental and physical health needs of 15 inpatients in a medium secure ward. You will have very close supervision available from a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and will also be supported by the site GP for the management of more complex physical health conditions.

You will be expected to do regular mental state examinations of patients under your care and provide reports and feedback for 4 weekly care review meetings for each patient and also their 6 monthly CPA meetings.

You will be expected to take part in a daytime frontline rota to cover emergency physical and mental health situations on wards where the middle-grade clinician is on leave. You will be expected to take part in weekly doctors meeting and academic meetings. You will have opportunity to take part in teaching undergraduate students on placement at Langdon hospital.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Completed foundation year training
- (or equivalent outside the UK)
- 1 year NHS experience in psychiatry.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working in forensic psychiatry

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent
- Registration with GMC

### Team Working Skills

**Essential**

- Good team player and respectful of fellow clinicians from various disciplines.
- Able to establish good working relationships with other members of a multidisciplinary team

### Clinical Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Competent in history taking and examination skills (both physical and mental health).
- Confident in phlebotomy and urgent medical care for inpatients.
- Psychiatric and physical health knowledge in keeping with someone who has finished foundation year 2 training in the UK or equivalent.

**Desirable**

- Accepts responsibility and able to take leadership for ward based emergencies.
- Good understanding of MHA 1983.
- Good understanding of use of Clozapine therapy.
- Psychologically minded.
