Applications are invited for a Locum Registrar to join the existing Cardiology team based at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The Locum Registrar in Cardiology post is for Monday to Friday, Normal Working Day hours and will be available until 4th August, 2026.

Successful candidates will have previous NHS experience in Cardiology.

The hourly rate is £55 with an additional 12.07% applied to the hourly rate for WTD.

Please note that we are unable to support sponsorship roles on Bank as we are not able to guarantee hours.

### Main duties of the job

Key Tasks will include the following:

- Work as part of the Cardiology team to provide the best medical management to patients under your care.
- Supervise and teach more junior staff on the ward.
- Liaise with relatives and carers.
- Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Lead Medical Team during on calls and out of hours, including management of cardiac arrest calls.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder will:

- Hold full registration and licence to practise with the GMC .
- Provide general care at registrar level to the patients admitted, including supervision of day-to-day management.
- Care for both the emergency admissions and in-patients in cardiology, including regular participation in ward rounds and assessment of patients referred from other departments.
- Escalate any concerns and seek advice from senior colleagues where needed.
- Provide an out-patient service under consultant supervision in specialist cardiology clinics.
- Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Participate in the training, teaching and supervision of junior colleagues.

### Eligibility

**Essential**

- Full registration with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practise at time of starting the post.
- Must have three years aggregate hospital experience at SHO/F2 level or higher grades, at least six months of which should be in Emergency Medicine.

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in UK or EEC hospitals for three years aggregate at SHO/F2 level or higher grades, at least six months of which should be in Emergency Medicine.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Competence in basic clinical procedures
- Able to prioritise clinical needs.
- Aware of own limitations and knows when to consult senior colleagues.
- Understands the importance of working effectively in teams.
- Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of the acutely ill patient.
- Play an effective part in advanced life support.
- ATLS or ALS

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and understanding of UK health systems.
- Awareness of current issues in the NHS
- ATLS, ALS and APLS/EPLS.
- Trauma team experience

### Qualifications and Experience

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Part A or equivalent of Emergency Medicine examinations

**Desirable**

- Primary FRCEM

### Communication and Interpersonal Skills

**Essential**

- Able to communicate effectively in written English
- Able to communicate effectively in spoken English to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues.
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following:- - PLAB 1 - PLAB 2 If applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills, but do not fit into one of the examples they need to provide evidence.
- Computer literate

- Able to establish good working relations with patients, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Evidence of team working skills
