Pharmacists monitor the use of medications as well as their efficacy and safety. The role of an independent prescriber adds a range of benefits including being able to prescribe any medication within their competence. The prescribing pharmacist plays an integral role in the management of long term conditions such as diabetes. They will be supported at all points by a GP. Islington Central Medical Centre is a large teaching and training practice with almost 25,000 patients and a large team of clinical and administrative staff.
