### Job overview

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, skilled Interventional Radiologist to join a team of 13 consultant radiologists, 2 advanced sonographers, 2 consultant reporting radiographers . The successful candidate will be expected to meet the department needs for mainly non-vascular image guided interventions as well as some vascular interventions. The successful candidate would also support some general and acute radiology reporting in the hospital such as A&E and IP CT and MR to help the radiology department meeting the general reporting demand such as general and acute radiology reporting and meeting the departmental KPIs. A GMC registration and minimum 2 years of IR experience are essential. A 1 year of IR fellowship, CCT training in IR, or 2 years of consultant-level experience in IR are desirable. Formal subspecialist IR training is also highly desirable.

The proposed job plan typically is 10 programmes activities. Part time down to 60% (6 programmed activities) will also be considered. The Trust supports 1.5 SPA for personal development and individual quality with a further negotiable 0.25PA-1PA time for additional activities. If part-time, the SPA would be reduced based on percentage from WTE.

### Main duties of the job

To play an active role in providing Interventional Radiology Service and to share with the other Consultant Radiologists, responsibility for the provision of appropriate services and advice.

Support of 7day working, including resident onsite Radiologist weekdays until 8pm Saturday and Sunday on a Rotational basis.

Communication and liaison with other departments within the hospital, both clinical and managerial Communication and liaison with agencies outside the hospital, including the emergency services, GP Surgeries and Urgent Care Centres, tertiary trauma centre.

Leading clinically on a modality within your area of subspecialist interest. Responsibility for the supervision, training and education of junior medical staff, with an active role in the training of radiographic, nursing and other staff.

Dealing with personnel and other managerial issues including supporting the clinical prioritisation of Imaging requests.

Continuing development of the service, using audit, the application of evidence-based medicine, support development of IT infrastructure, mentorship programme and developing evidence-based pathways within your area of expertise.

Support a culture of learning from excellence as well as learning from mistakes/errors including active contribution to the REALM meetings.

To support the wider organisation in medical professional matters.

To work collaboratively with other organisations within the Black Country STP.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

PROPOSED JOB PLAN

This is initially offered as a 10 PA post. A part-time working pattern between 6 PA to 9 PA will also be considered. A job plan and work schedule will set out agreed arrangements for organisation, location and composition of work subject to mutual agreement with the Clinical Lead. The job duties are mainly to support non-vascular interventions and some vascular procedures. If more vascular experience is required 1-2 sessions can be arranged in nearby hospital for attaining and maintaining vascular IR skills.

For this post “direct clinical care” (DCC) (work relating directly to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness) includes emergency work, outpatient activities, multi-disciplinary meetings about direct patient care and administration directly related to the above. “Supporting professional activities” (SPA) (that underpin direct clinical care) include participation in training, medical education, continuous professional development, formal teaching, audit, clinical management and local clinical governance activities.

This will typically consist of the sessions described below but will vary according to the experience and expertise of the candidate and departmental requirements.

The exact distribution will be calculated at time of job planning. The Department uses Allocate software for job planning purposes. Home Reporting as rolled out and where applicable will be incorporated into the job plan.

- General CT/MR | 1-2 PAs
- Interventional Radiology Session | 4 PAs (depending on demand)
- General Acute reporting Session | 1-2 PA
- MDT including preparation | 0.5 - 1 PA (if required in special interest)
- Personal CPD, Revalidation (QI and Audit, Governance, Teaching, appraisal, incident investigation & complaints) | 1.5 core SPA (0.25 – 1 PA for additional responsibilities subject to approval and needs by department including ES, CS, Modality lead roles etc..) if part time ; SPA will be reduced accordingly.
- Out of Hours Duties and oncalls | 1 PA

Educational supervision, clinical tutor, audit lead appraiser duties (max 0.5 SPA)

There is a regular monthly half day audit/REALM meeting programme equivalent to 0.5 PA included in the 1.5 PA core SPA.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
