### Job summary

There is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the ENT department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust on a 10PA Job Plan.

This is a fixed term locum 12-month post, and it is open to those who are able to work flexibly and help with inpatient and outpatient backlogs. It will be expected that the appointee can complement the skills and the sub-specialities in the department. The appointee will be expected to support the suspected urgent cancer referrals (2WW Pathway) to meet the targets. The appointee should be competent in ENT Head and Neck surgery.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is the largest multi-site trust in UK. The ENT Department works across four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital.

The ENT Department has 32 whole time equivalent consultants. The appointee will be expected to undertake cross-site working with an agreed job plan. Outpatient sessions will be at all UHB sites.

### Main duties of the job

The job plan will include a commitment to clinic, theatre and on call duties. The on-call commitment will be based at BHH, supported by a registrar and FY/CT on call. All clinical activities are cancelled when on call as 1st on consultant.

Time will be given for admin and supporting professional activities. The appointee will be expected to attend and contribute to Clinical Governance, teaching and audit within the department. Access to a car is essential for on call purposes.

The appointee will be involved in running clinics, theatres and being included in the ENT consultant on call rota.

The current post is a Locum ENT consultant post, and it is suitable for those who can complement the skills and sub-specialities in the department. It is expected that the successful candidate will support the department achieve the targets for urgent cancer referrals by seeing the patients on the " 2-week referral " pathway and participates in their management.

Following restructuring of services aligned to the UHB surgical site strategy, the ENT operating will be at QEHB and BHH sites.

The high-volume low complexity surgery (day case) is delivered from the BHH site, and the low volume-high complexity work is delivered from the QEH site. Therefore, all ENT consultant job plans will be based on the UHB surgical site strategy.

It is also expected that the appointee will take part in training and teaching the junior doctors and other allied health professionals.

The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service.

Subject to the provisions of the terms and conditions of service she/he must observe agreed policies on clinical matters and should follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Hospital.

In the management of employees of the Trust, she/he will be expected to follow legislation laid down in this respect.
