University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) is seeking to recruit a Locum Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee arthroplasty. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of Consultant and Specialist Doctor colleagues within a major University Teaching Hospital.

UHNM provides a comprehensive range of elective orthopaedic services, alongside a busy trauma service and a number of tertiary specialist services. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care across both elective and trauma pathways.

The post holder will be expected to work across both Trust sites:

- Royal Stoke University Hospital (Trauma and Elective Services)
- County Hospital, Stafford (Elective Services)

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

- Dedicated higher specialist training in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery.
- The ability to independently perform hip and knee arthroplasty procedures at consultant level.
- Experience and competence in managing both complex and non-complex orthopaedic trauma, with the ability to operate at consultant level.
- A commitment to delivering excellent clinical outcomes, patient-centred care, and multidisciplinary team working.
- Participation in service development, teaching, training, and clinical governance activities consistent with a University Teaching Hospital environment.

### Main duties of the job

- To see new patient referrals into the service in line with your specialist interest with a view to generating an independent caseload of patients for inpatient treatment.
- To review other Consultants patients waiting follow up with discharge to primary care or facilitation of ongoing care in accordance with guidance issued by current local Commissioners.
- To provide leadership and skill in primary hip and knee arthroplasty surgery
- Be able to participate and manage independent orthopaedic elective operating lists (the elective practice will be hip and knee arthroplasty).
- To manage and be responsible for continuing care of patients with hip and knee problems in partnership with consultant colleagues.
- To be able to provide second opinion for concerned patients at the request of consultant colleagues.
- To lead ward management by active participation and example.
- To liaise with other surgeons in respect of annual leave and study leave to ensure continued provision of service delivery.
- To participate in a 1:10 specialist firm structure on call rota

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC Registration

**Desirable**

- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via
- CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview
- CESR or European Community Rights

### Clinical Experience & Training

**Essential**

- Experience in a range of Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery, specifically for hip and knee arthroplasty
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- ATLS/European Trauma/ or equivalent Trauma Course in last four years

**Desirable**

- Evidence of completion of approved fellowship training in Hip/other elective specialty interest.
- Experience of other MTCs/equivalent

### Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working

**Essential**

- Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching and training at an appropriate level

**Desirable**

- Experience of supervising specialist / core and foundation trainees
- Teaching/Faculty experience
