### Job summary

This is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Spinal Surgeon, with special interests in Paediatric Deformity. This post will be available from August 2026 a period of 6 months.

### Main duties of the job

This post will deliver 10PAs as part of the Spinal Surgery team with a full time commitment to complex spinal surgery. Acute responsibilities will include taking part in a 1:12 spinal only on-call rota. The elective practice will focus on complex spinal surgery including paediatric deformity surgery. Candidates are expected to have experience of all facets of spinal surgery, have undertaken dedicated post CCT training in complex spinal surgery and have UK consultant experience in paediatric deformity. There will be opportunities to contribute to teaching and research.

### Job responsibilities

Locum Consultant in Spinal Surgery with sub-speciality expertise in Paediatric Deformity

The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.

The successful applicant should possess FRCS (Tr & Orth) or FRCS (Neurosurgery) and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in complex spinal surgery including paediatric deformity surgery. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary. The Spinal Surgery department was created in 1997 following the centralisation of services from across Leeds and Wakefield. The two groups of spinal surgeons were amalgamated in 2006 and a full spinal on call rota instituted in 2013. Spinal surgical patients are now co-located on the same wards at the Leeds General Infirmary, providing a highest standard secondary and tertiary centre serving a population of approximately 2.5 million people.

What you will bring to the role

OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

- To deliver care to patients who require spinal surgical interventions at the LGI site: Out-patient clinics Supervision of patients Care of in-patients on a Spinal Surgery rota with an on call frequency of 1:12. Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the spinal team and across the spinal surgery service.

To work with colleagues in Spinal surgery to deliver acute spinal on call (on the Spinal rota with an on-call frequency of 1 in 12). This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours. To work with colleagues in Spinal surgery to deliver the regional complex paediatric deformity service.

To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the Spinal surgery service. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.
