### Job overview

The successful candidate will work in a team of dedicated consultant respiratory paediatricians, delivering high quality respiratory care to children in the North East and North Cumbria region. The post has arisen through retirement of a current consultant.

Clinical duties will include consultant of the week and on call responsibilities, as well as regular general respiratory outpatient clinics, specialist respiratory clinics with the exact distribution of specialist interest areas to be agreed between department and successful candidate.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide ‘on-call’ respiratory paediatric care for all paediatric inpatients at GNCH and FRH.
- Other duties may include (specialist areas to be decided dependent on experience/departmental need): o Oversee and report sleep studies and other physiological investigations o Manage the care of children receiving long term ventilation in home, including inpatient, outpatient care and when required home visiting o Ensure quality assurance of sleep and physiological investigations o Contribute to the complex airway service in both inpatient and outpatient settings

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Research

- Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.
- Research/critical review of literature.
- Publications in the last five years.

- Higher degree.

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
- Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills.

- Attendance at courses to develop teaching skills.
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education.

### Clinical Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of experience in the specialty.
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty.
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.

### Quality Improvement

**Essential**

- Evidence of participation in quality improvement.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of having changed practice as a result of quality improvement.
- Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement.

### Management and Administration Experience

**Essential**

- Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance.

**Desirable**

- Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals.
- Evidence of leadership / project management.
- Evidence of having implemented change.
- Experience in developing and implementing new technologies.
- Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines.

### Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills

**Essential**

- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC Registration.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- Evidence of training in PRM

**Desirable**

- Higher Degree.
- Special skills training in the specialty.
- Leadership and management experience.
