There is also scope for collaborative working with our neighbouring Trusts and Plastic Surgery departments, as part of the Integrated Care Partnership. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview. Interview date is 8th September 2026 ### Main duties of the job This is a replacement post in a busy general Plastic Surgery & Burns department that has a broad referral base. The job is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and there is necessity to support a well-established busy breast reconstruction service, develop it further and deliver care that meets the clinical needs. This post has a particular focus on microvascular breast reconstruction. The acute aspect of this post has an emphasis on supporting our burns and acute plastic surgery service. On-call commitments will include 1 week in 10 consultant-led acute cover, but this may be adjusted depending on service needs. The successful applicant will join the current team of 10 consultants in this regional centre for Plastic Surgery & Burns. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Duties and responsibilities The key duties and responsibilities are: - Plastic Surgery & Burns service responsibilities including on call (currently 1 week in 10, but subject to change) - Outpatient clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital, Amersham Hospital and possibly other peripheral hospitals - Operating (acute and elective) - Care of inpatients and outpatients - Clinical and other administration as required by agreement - Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates (including educational and clinical supervisor role) - Participation in Clinical Governance - Departmental role within the team ## Person Specification ### Experience **Essential** - General training in plastic surgery - Extensive years WTE minimum in recognised training post - Ability to make good decisions at consultant level ### Other Requirements **Essential** - Full GMC Registration - Ability to travel to and between sites ### Skills, Abilities & Knowledge **Essential** - Excellent leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant - Evidence for surgical and clinical skills in Plastic surgery to undertake a consultant role - Good personal and interpersonal skills - Good spoken and written English. - Communication skills should be highly developed. - Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates **Desirable** - Experience of clinical audit, research & quality improvement projects - Knowledge of the NHS - Management & Leadership training course and experience - Computing skills - Communication skills training ### Education, Qualifications & Training **Essential** - MBBS or equivalent GMC registrable qualifications - General training in plastic surgery and burns - General training in skin cancer treatment including previous skin MDT involvement - CCT in Plastic Surgery OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Plastic surgery.
