Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust Women's and Children's Directorate Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology Full time- 10 PA's Fixed term contract for 12 months

An opportunity has arisen for two motivated and committed Consultants to join our team of enthusiastics in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, contributing towards enhancing maternal safety within our unit. The post is a new role following approval of expansion of consultant body to provide gynae cover during on call. The successful candidate will have a strong obstetric focus, and should be able to demonstrate experience and interest in fetal medicine, preterm clinic and high risk obstetrics, understand and lead on fetal wellbeing and run CTG teachings. A complementary interest in ambulatory care and HRT would also be of advantage and lend support to the existing consultant body in their provision of both gynaecology and obstetric services

This Job will provide clinical services across Southeast London as we continue to expand our activity across Kent. We provide outpatient and inpatient care on the Queen Mary’s Hospital site in Sidcup, and will be expanding antenatal care in to the community as well. The provisional make-up of the post is described below, pending any changes that are agreed with the Clinical Director and the appointee, within 3 months of appointment. The successful candidate must be on the Specialist Register with the GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT or CESR.

The post is planned for 10 PAs.

### Main duties of the job

Purpose of the Post An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. This fixed-term consultant appointment has been created to support increasing service demand and assist the department in achieving national elective recovery targets, reducing RTT waiting times and maintaining timely patient access to both obstetric and gynaecological services. The post-holder will contribute to consultant-led outpatient, ambulatory and maternity services while supporting delivery of safe, high-quality care.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Obstetrics

- Deliver consultant-led antenatal care.
- Provide clinical support within the Maternity Assessment Unit.
- Contribute to labour ward activity during scheduled daytime sessions.
- Undertake elective Caesarean Section lists.
- Support delivery of maternity safety initiatives.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary maternity teams.

Gynaecology

- Deliver general gynaecology outpatient clinics.
- Contribute to ambulatory gynaecology services.
- Support elective recovery initiatives.
- Participate in service improvement projects aimed at improving patient access.

Teaching and Training

- Support the education of medical students.
- Participate in training of resident doctors.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary teaching programmes.
- Support simulation and clinical skills training.

Governance and Quality Improvement

- Participate in clinical governance meetings.
- Contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support risk management and patient safety programmes.
- Participate in appraisal and revalidation processes.

### Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

## Person Specification

### Teaching and training experience

**Essential**

- Wide experience of supervising junior medical staff and teaching and training junior medical staff and midwives/nurses

**Desirable**

- Documented evidence of teaching and training courses attended
- Experience in role as educational supervisor
- Simulation training

### Clinical experience and effectiveness

**Essential**

- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
- Experience of clinical risk management, audit and research.
- Experience in general gynaecological emergencies and a readiness to take part in the obstetric duty rota to start with

### Management and administrative experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of management and administrative experience.

**Desirable**

- Attendance at management training course.
- Evidence of involvement in Obstetric Governance and Risk Management, and Maternity Transformation Programme

### Qualifications and professional training

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration
- MRCOG or equivalent
- CCT or equivalent ( or within 6 months of CCT)
- Advance Labour Ward ATSM or equivalent

**Desirable**

- Interest in Perinatal Mental health
- ATSM in Labour Ward Lead.
