### Job summary

Applications are warmly invited from energetic and enthusiastic candidates to join our team at Heartlands Hospital covering a one-year Sabbatical leave. The successful applicant will be working alongside 12 Consultant Nephrologists providing integrated Renal Services for people living in East Birmingham and its surroundings, as part of the wider Nephrology department at University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).

UHB is the largest single NHS provider of nephrology care in the UK with a catchment population of 1.7 million serving a highly diverse community, including areas with some of the highest incident and prevalent rates for end-stage renal disease in the UK. At Heartlands, we deliver comprehensive renal services locally and regionally, and are committed to providing patient care and professional development of the highest standards. We have a large dialysis program (over 470 HD, over 100 PD) and follow-up around 200 transplant patients. We also provide the regional Hypertension service across UHB 's footprint.

We are proud of our multi-disciplinary working model, with many CNS led clinics. Practical procedural work (including ' medical ' PD tube placement), education and research opportunities will be available to interested candidates. Sub-speciality interests are encouraged, but not required for these posts.

### Main duties of the job

We contribute to the ongoing care of General Medical patients within our footprint, optional sessions in Acute Internal Medicine are available for any candidates wishing to continue a front-door Medical commitment.

Our New Consultant colleague will join us providing care across our service. Inpatient duties are covered by 2 duty colleagues, resulting in an approximately 1:5 inpatient commitment. Out-of-hours working is undertaken 1:12, including overnight (non-resident) and weekend (both resident and non-resident) sessions. Middle-grade cover is provided 8am - 8pm, 7 days per week.

Peritoneal Dialysis care provision will be an integral part of the role and therefore candidates with particular interest in PD are warmly encouraged to apply. Outpatient clinics are spread across our 3 sites (Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull), involvement with sub-speciality clinics (including Hypertension, Advanced Kidney Care) may be available for interested and experienced candidates. Procedural sessions (including biopsy/line supervision, PD tube placement) may be available for interested and experienced candidates.

Our unit is research active, with participation in a wide selection of topic areas. Educational and Clinical supervision is supported by all departmental colleagues. Participation in our weekly educational meetings, M+M, Renal biopsy and other meetings is expected, as part of our commitment to excellence in patient care.
