This is a less than full-time post for 3-4 days per week / 6.5 PA’s Leicester has a high reputation for the provision of sport, exercise, and musculoskeletal medicine, with many of our Consultants have current, or have held, national roles. The successful candidate will become a key member of an established multi-disciplinary team, including five Consultants, extended scope physiotherapists, speciality doctors, clinical nurse specialists and a podiatrist. The main responsibility will be provision of secondary care SEM services to our local population across sites in Leicester and Leicestershire, including Leicester Hospitals and at the National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine based at Loughborough University. The East Midlands offers unique opportunities for developing a full-time career in Sport & Exercise Medicine. The post is a locum for 12 months initially and would be suitable for individuals on the Specialist register in SEM or within a 6 month period of obtaining a CCT in SEM. Applicants must have MRCP, MRCGP, or equivalent, and be Members or Fellows of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (UK). A comprehensive clinical experience of sport and exercise and musculoskeletal medicine is expected. A long term commitment to NHS SEM services in the Leicester is anticipated ### Main duties of the job Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients. To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients. To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community. Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences. Supervise and train junior medical staff To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors. Teaching, research and administration. To proactively develop the service. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities PRINCIPAL ELEMETS OF THE POST WILL BE: To provide secondary care sport and exercise medicine clinical work To support and take joint responsibility for the clinical work of other members of the multidisciplinary team To supervise and train undergraduates and post-graduate doctors in training that rotate through the department To commit to personal and professional development and life-long learning To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place and documented through audit. - To work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match. To provide continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge and for the proper organisation and administration of their clinical practice. To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives and requirements of the Department and the Trust To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust’s ‘Critical Incident Policy’, are reported in a timely manner. To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning and revalidation processes.
