12 months Fixed Term Position

This post is for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist for a fixed term of 12 months. This is a whole time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Resident On Call will be part of this post.

### Main duties of the job

- In addition to any specialist interests all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.
- Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.
- Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients & supervision of doctors in training.
- To participate in clinical audit, adverse event review, guideline development review, external review, and service development.
- Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate.
- Participate in clinical audit under local arrangements.Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process.
- Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust. It is mandatory for all Consultants to keep up to date with evidence-based practice.
- Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as “Duties of a Doctor”, “Good Medical Practice”, & the “GMC Performance Procedures”.Exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited period.

- RCOG ATSM or equivalent and demonstrable experience including that relating to a special interest to complement existing colleagues e.g., Advanced Labour ward practice ATSM
- Demonstrable experience to manage a Labour Ward independently
- Knowledge and experience to participate on the Consultant on call rota
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years.
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
- Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
- Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
- Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions

- Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
