The successful applicant will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. We strive to challenge our existing working practices and constantly to improve our service to deliver best practice guidance. We aim to deliver successful patient outcomes, whilst allowing patients to feel valued during their visits to the Trust. ### Main duties of the job It is expected that the successful candidate will have a job plan comprising of some On-call Night / Weekend cover and  backfill / flexible clinical sessions. Rota to be given 4-6 weeks in advance of commitments taking place. Please see attached – job description which describes in full details the duties, responsibilities and reporting relationships of the advertising role. ## Person Specification ### Previous Experience **Essential** - Wide range of experience in General Surgery - Demonstrable training in Colorectal Surgery - Evidence of independent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy practice - Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues - Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent diagnostic opinion, and to be able to take full responsibility for independent management of patients - Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice - Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidencebased practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives - Demonstrable experience and participation in research **Desirable** - Experience of General Surgery in UK Major Hospital - Demonstrable General Surgery consultant level experience - Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals ### Skills and knowledge **Essential** - Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors - Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation ### Qualifications / Training **Essential** - Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register - MBChB (or equivalent) qualification - FRCS (or equivalent) qualification - Licence to practice **Desirable** - Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to General Surgery (eg Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc) ## Documents - [job description.
