## Job Content

### Job overview

Our Emergency Department is challenging, rewarding and unlike anywhere else. We believe the best patient care comes from people who support one another, regardless of job title. Our department has also been featured in a BBC documentary, “Emergency 24/7”, providing an authentic insight into the realities of modern emergency care and showcasing the professionalism, resilience and teamwork that define our staff.

Why Join Us? This is more than consultant post in a busy major trauma centre—it's an opportunity to help shape the future of a growing Emergency Department. We offer a varied role across the Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit, opportunities to develop trauma care skills, and the chance to work alongside an experienced, supportive multidisciplinary team. The Emergency Department at Southmead Hospital sees between 300 and 350 patients per day, with a wide variety of conditions predominantly from the North of Bristol but from the region as part of the Trusts tertiary services.

Please note the JD for this role does not have RCEM approval due to the differences with the SPA split within the job plan.

Applicants should have a CCT or be within twelve months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.

### Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with the established 29 Consultants and 2 Specialists in a rota including evening, weekend and overnight sessions as part of their job plan. The successful applicant will be expected to take a role in our new (co-located) minor injuries unit, as well as working with the other Consultants on the shop floor, enabling the Department to meet National Service Frameworks and Government targets.

The appointee will be contractually accountable to the Bristol Foundation NHS Trust for the provision of services. The appointee will be managerially responsible to the Chief Executive through the Divisional Director. All Consultants are required to undergo an annual appraisal carried out in accordance with the Trust policy. Consultants are also required to take an active and co-operative approach to their job planning, which will be reviewed on an annual basis by their clinical Director.
