## Job Content

### Job overview

Applications are invited for Locum Consultant Intensivist post within Adult Critical Care at St George’s University Hospitals Foundation Trust, London.

Clinical work will be based on the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. There may be the opportunity to contribute to the Critical Care Outreach Service, as well as to a secondary specialty, subject to negotiation.

Job Summary:

Post holders will:

- -       Provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team delivering Critical Care -       Engage in associated Service Development, Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement work -       Contribute to the education and supervision of students and trainees -       Support Directorate-wide Research activities -       Contribute to the clinical management of the base unit

It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out the majority of their duties as a Consultant Intensivist on the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. There are opportunities for some DCC time to be allocated to contribute to the Critical Care Outreach Service or to pursue a secondary clinical speciality. We currently have Consultants who split their time across Anaesthesia, Medical Specialties, City St George’s, and wider Trust/NHS managerial roles. We would encourage interested applicants to get in touch for an informal discussion about how an alternative secondary specialty interest could be accommodated.

### Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Job Plan

Please see the Job Summary section above for a description of the expected duties of the post-holder. The job plan will be fully annualised. Current job planning guidance at St George’s expects consultants to work a minimum of 42 clinical weeks per year. There is flexibility in the number of PA commitments that existing consultants offer to the trust and applicants wishing to work less than 10 PAs are encouraged to apply.

The post holder will be required to participate in the NICU consultant on-call rota. There are 2 rotas on each unit that run in parallel. The first, so-called ‘1st on’ rota is a seven-day duty period running Monday to Monday, including Saturday and Sunday nights. The ‘2nd on’ rota provides for second consultant weekday cover and includes that weekday night.

The post holder will have the option of spending a portion of Direct Clinical Care with the Critical Care Outreach service, which provides 7-day a week 07:45 to 19:45 consultant cover. There is also the opportunity to be involved with the ICU Survivorship Service.

There is prospective cover for all rotas, hence the post holder is expected to liaise with their consultant colleagues in providing internal cover for annual, study and professional leave, and this may require some flexibility in the post holder’s hours.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please see attached job description and person specification for more detailed information on this post.

Enquiries about the posts should be directed to Dr Nirav Shah (Clinical Director) via the Department of Critical Care on 020 8725 5699 or \[email protected\]. Informal enquiries are encouraged and less-than-full-time applicants are welcome.
