## Job Content

### Job overview

The job plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average.

The post-holder will mainly work within the EP department St Bartholomew’s Hospital where they will undertake catheter lab procedures, an outpatient clinic and on call duties. In addition there will be 1-2 PAs at UCL Hospital to run an outpatient clinic.

A major expectation of this new post is to propel research, particularly in their subspecialty field, publishing regularly and participating fully in scientific meetings, nationally and internationally.

This is an outline program, and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with EP Clinical Director, Professor Ross Hunter.

It is intended that the post holder will work approximately 8 PAs (direct clinical care) per week, and 1 PA (supporting) when averaged through the year. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director. Time off in lieu will be given where applicable.

### Clinical Knowledge

- All aspects of cardiac electrophysiology and general cardiology

- Demonstration of sub-specialty interest/expertice

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within an MDT.
- Accountability; ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
- Interpersonal Skills; ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work co-operatively with others
- Self-motivated with an enquiring, critical approach to work
- Ability to work under pressure
- Caring attitude to patients
- Willingness to challenge the norm in a positive manner whilst building a team ethos
- Ability to deliver consistently high levels of care for patients in a productive and cost-effective manner

**Desirable**

- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and flexibility to work outside of usual job plan when required

### Audit, Management & IT

**Essential**

- Ability to undertake and direct audit with demonstrable understanding of the impact and challenges this brings
- Good IT skills, use of patient and hospital databases
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national level.

- Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
- Evidence of leadership of and involvement with clinical governance
- Demonstrates a commitment to the highest ethical and professional values and a belief in government funded healthcare

### Professional Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration Within 6 months of CCST in Cardiology at interview date
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification
- Higher degree e.g. PhD/ MD submitted/awarded (copy to be brought to the interview)

### Clinical Experience & Skills

**Essential**

- Fully trained in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac device implantation

**Desirable**

- Verifiable subspecilaity skill
- Demonstration of sub-specialty interest

### Academic – Research, Teaching skills & Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of extensive involvement with research (clinical, translational or basic science) and the ability to describe and discuss the impact of findings
- Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international scientific meetings
- Knowledge of research ethics and grant applications

**Desirable**

- First and last name authorship in publications relevant to this post.
- Being a named applicant on grants.
- Experience of setting up collaborative multicentre research projects.
- Demonstration of a research track record relevant to the candidate’s sub-specialty interest.
