We are seeking a Locum Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist to join the Community Recovery Team North in Newham. This is a rare opportunity to work in an integrated community and inpatient service. The Community Recovery Team serves adults with serious mental illness residing in the North of the borough. It is a well-established service which  seamless and integrated mental health care between inpatients and the community. The post is being advertised on a fixed-term basis initially, with future substantive recruitment planned.

### Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have overall clinical responsibility for service users on their caseload in their CRT sub-team and sector inpatients. They will lead on the delivery of high quality care in all settings; ensure policies and procedures are followed; develop close working links with GP colleagues in order to provide integrated holistic care; and develop close working links with the acute locality treatment wards ensuring the right care is provided in the right setting.

## Person Specification

### QUALIFICATIONS

**Essential**

- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
- Higher training in approved training posts for minimum of 3 years and / or previous consultant training.
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983 and Approved Clinician status

### CLINICAL SKILLS

**Essential**

- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership for the team
- Self-motivating and innovative
- Expertise in risk assessment and evidence-based intervention after self-harm
- Confident in therapeutic risk taking
- Commitment to clinical governance

**Desirable**

- Training in a psychological therapy

### OTHER REQUIREMENTS

**Essential**

- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to get on with colleagues

**Desirable**

- Media training

### RESEARCH AND AUDIT

**Essential**

- Experience of research work, especially in general hospital patients and / or patients with medically unexplained symptoms
- Audit experience

**Desirable**

- Experience of grant-funded project work
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant academic fields

### KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level within the last 3 years
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
- Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
- Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
- Experience of working on an inpatient ward

**Desirable**

- Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health
- Knowledge & experience of recovery-informed service delivery and working with patients as experts by experience
- Inpatient experience at consultant level

### TEACHING AND SUPERVISION

**Essential**

- Experience in teaching junior staff
- Good teaching and communication skills
- Experience of teaching medical undergraduates and postgraduates
- Experience of teaching non-medical mental health professionals

**Desirable**

- Medical education qualification

- Leadership skills
- Ability to work as a part of multidisciplinary, multi-model team
