Locum Consultant Cardiologist

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a committed and ambitious clinician to join the NHS Lanarkshire Cardiology Service based at University Hospital Wishaw. The successful candidate will join a well-established and supportive team of cardiologists delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient care across NHS Lanarkshire.

Cardiology services are provided across all three acute hospital sites within NHS Lanarkshire and encompass inpatient cardiology care, outpatient clinics, specialist cardiac investigations, heart failure services, cardiac imaging and involvement in the acute and general medical take. The successful applicant will contribute to the ongoing development of cardiology services and support improvements in patient pathways, access and clinical outcomes.

University Hospital Wishaw is home to a busy Cardiology Unit, including Coronary Care Unit (CCU), inpatient cardiology wards and a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The department benefits from close multidisciplinary working with specialist nurses, cardiac physiologists, advanced practitioners and administrative support teams. There are opportunities to develop subspecialty interests in line with service requirements and the successful candidate's expertise.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery of acute cardiology services, inpatient care, outpatient clinics and specialist cardiac services. Participation in the general medical on-call rota will be required in line with departmental arrangements.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis, with a provisional allocation of 8 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions and 2 Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) sessions, subject to agreement and approval of the final job plan. Applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.

- Satisfactory medical clearance by NHS Lanarkshire Occupational Health Service.
