Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Obstetric Anaesthetist based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The successful applicant will work within a team of enthusiastic consultants to provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency services at our major tertiary/ quaternary referral centre. Other sub-specialty interests in Orthopaedics and Trauma, Gynaecological and robotic surgery and Perioperative Medicine are particularly welcome..

### Ability

**Essential**

- Ability to take full responsibility for independent management of patients and to lead the emergency anaesthesia team across all specialties out of hours.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with patients and other team members
- Ability to develop clinical service or processes.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experienced in adult anaesthesia and analgesia for orthopaedics, gynaecology including robotic surgery.
- Experienced in emergency anaesthesia for a broad range of specialties (including intra and inter hospital transfers).
- Use of ultrasonography for vascular access, regional/ central neuraxial blockade

**Desirable**

- SIA or extended experience in one of the following: Obstetric Anaesthesia; Regional Anaesthesia / Orthopaedics and Trauma; Major General Surgery

### Qualifications and Training

- GMC registered medical practitioner
- FRCA or equivalent
- Be on, or eligible for inclusion on, the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia with a licence to practice (within 6 months of date of interview).

**Desirable**

- Additional post-graduate qualifications, e.g. MD/ PhD/MSc
- Additional sub-specialty training in Obstetrics as well as others (e.g. Orthopaedic/Trauma anaesthesia including Regional anaesthesia)
