### Job overview

These posts would ideally suit somebody who has previous experience of Psychiatry, or those without but who want to try out Psychiatry prior to CT1 application or a longer term career in Psychiatry. The Education Programmes are mandatory throughout the Trust. These posts offer an excellent introduction to Psychiatry. Posts are appropriate for CT1-3 trainees

The Consultant body has a variety of special interests and there are many opportunities for the trainees to look into and further expand their knowledge and experience with discussion with their consultant

### Main duties of the job

Core clinical work (consistent with Royal College of Psychiatry requirements)

- The bulk of clinical work will be within a Consultant Led team based at your designated Hospital Site. This is based  in Community mental health teams or on the wards.
- There can be oncall work within normal office working hours
- The LED post holder will be expected to accumulate their own outpatient load, or work within the MDT on the ward, from new referrals and help out with known patients in outpatients and pick up ongoing patient management through the community teams as appropriate.
- The LED is expected to contribute to the bio psychosocial model of care with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes history taking, mental state examination of all patients and the physical examination of outpatients and on the wards where appropriate. The treatments may be physical, pharmacological, psychological and social as appropriate. There is a strong emphasis on the recovery model, and as such the trainee will be encouraged to formulate management plans accordingly.

Academic Activities

The weekly educational programme of centralised conferences, journal clubs, outside speakers, interview skills training. There is a university run MRCPsych course available in Manchester. There is a myriad of training opportunities with funding for study leave where appropriate.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Some experience in Psychiatry
- Motivation to take up psychiatry as a career option

**Desirable**

- A minimum of 2 years in Psychiatry
- Experience of teaching and training

### Skills/knowledge

**Essential**

- Good Interpersonal and team working skills
- Leadership skills
- Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation such as the Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach etc

**Desirable**

- An additional area of relevant special interest
- Actively involved in continuing professional development

### Education/Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBChB or equivalent
- Must be GMC registered

**Desirable**

- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Registered as completed Higher Training with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Progress towards additional Post Graduate Degree, such as Msc or MD
