### Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) based at the Heartlands and Good Hope Hopspitals, part of UHB NHS Trust. This post is suitable for doctors looking to work at middle-grade level in the Emergency Department. We will actively support all clinicians to achieve competencies in the RCEM curriculum and completion of the FRCEM examinations.

Candidates applying for this post must have a minimum of 4 years post-graduation experience with a significant proportion of that in acute specialties and at least 24 months in emergency medicine (EM).

### Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

*Assess, diagnose, treat, refer, and discharge patients presenting to the Emergency Department and Clinical Decision Unit (CDU).

*Provide rapid assessment and triage for both walk-in and ambulance patients.

*Manage the full range of emergency cases, including resuscitation, critically ill or injured patients, paediatric emergencies, complex cases, and minor injuries.

*Independently oversee an Area of the Emergency Department during overnight shifts, ensuring safe and effective patient care.

*Manage patients admitted to the CDU.

*Review diagnostic results such as X-rays and pathology reports.

Leadership and Department Management

*Support consultants and senior nurses in running the ED floor, ensuring patients are seen promptly and staff are appropriately supervised.

*Maintain efficient patient flow and help meet national quality standards.

*Supervise and support resident doctors, nurses, advanced practitioners, and students working in the department.

*Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and other hospital departments.

Teaching and Training

*Participate in formal and informal teaching for resident doctors, nurses, ACPs/ENPs, and medical or nursing students.

*Attend and contribute to weekly educational meetings and protected teaching sessions.

*Support training and professional development of resident staff.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Full GMC registration
- *Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
- *Eligibility to live and work in the UK
- *Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical

- *Completion of ST3 EM
- *FRCEM Intermediate

### Qualifications

- *Medical Degree from a recognized University by GMC
- *4 years of Post graduate clinical experience.
- *At least 2 years previous experience in Emergency Medicine post
- *Demonstrates competence in management of full range of Emergency Medicine presentations
- *ALS provider
- *ATLS/ETC provider
- *APLS/EPLS provider
