### Job overview

This post is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract for a Trust LED FY2 grade post to support the Resident doctor and consultant team in Emergency Medicine, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury.   This post will provide excellent experience in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will work as part of the junior tier (FY2/CT1 / CT2 level) and will take part in a full shift rota pattern. The pattern of work is compliant with the European Working Time Directive and will be compliant with the Resident Doctors Contract. There is a middle grade doctor on the shop-floor throughout the 24 hour period and consultant presence 16 hours a day. The post holder will be expected to work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team providing direct clinical care.  We anticipate this to be a popular post, therefore we encourage interested applicants to apply early. This advert may close sooner than the advised closing date.  All applicants MUST hold a FULL GMC registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.

### Main duties of the job

The Emergency Department (ED) is at the centre of the acute work of all Trusts. Emergency Medicine specialists are responsible for assessing and resuscitating patients with serious illness and injuries before their transfer to hospital wards or operating theatres. Other patients are assessed, treated and sent home for follow up and ongoing care with their General Practitioner.

Typical duties may include:

- Resuscitation and initial management of emergency cases in a team.
- Management of other patients presenting to the ED
- Admission of patients to inpatient teams for further management.
- Admission of patients to the AOU, their ongoing management, discharge and referral when necessary.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of the patient as a central focus of care
- Demonstrate broad clinical skills in the management of acute medical patients
- Competence in basic clinical procedures Ability to prioritise clinical need
- Understanding of the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Familiar with working practices in the UK

**Desirable**

- 6 month general professional experience at SHO level in UK

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Foundation Programme 1 Completed
- Registration with the GMC & Licence to practice

**Desirable**

- ALS Certificate
- MRCP Part 1 or FRCEM Primary (Desirable)
