Sheffield Teaching Hospitals currently has openings in the Linen Services department on the 11.30 am – 8pm shift at the Northern General Hospital for individuals who are dedicated team players that care about the importance of their job. Working days are Monday to Friday with the occasional Bank Holiday required.

The hospital laundry is a busy unit processing 150,000 items of hospital linen each week providing an essential service to the patients and clinical staff working in Sheffield’s Hospitals.

Successful candidates will need to be physically capable of meeting hourly production targets as well as being comfortable handling used, hospital linen, with some vaccinations required for this part of the process.

The laundry is a semi-automated facility with high volume processing equipment. Full training is provided and staff are rotated around all the different processes on a regular basis.

### Main duties of the job

- Sorting linen into different categories – sheets, pillowcase, towels.
- Loading and unloading washing machines and tumble driers.
- Feeding linen into industrial ironers and folding machines.
- Counting and packing linen into deliveries for wards and theatres.
- Moving cages and stillages within the laundry.
- Completing all mandatory training.
- Receiving soiled/infected linen on stillages.
- Sorting linen.

Selection Process

Those who meet the required standards on their application form will be invited to an assessment morning which will include an interview, team exercise, basic Maths and English test and a tour of the laundry.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Data entry into spread sheets
- Experience of handling chemicals in a laundry or cleaning environment
- Basic skills in the use of Microsoft Excel

**Desirable**

- Experience in a commercial laundry
- Experience in use of industrial laundry equipment

### Other Factors

**Essential**

- Flexible to meet the needs of the service

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- GCSE English & Maths at Grade 3/D, or equivalent qualification/experience, or relevant experience that demonstrates competency to this level
- “Willingness to complete and achieve local training workbook and to achieve the required competencies in the following areas (this will be completed through local induction training, and competency based training and assessment to learn the full range of linen services): - linen services machinery and equipment including general use, and ensuring safe practices - infection control procedures for safe handling of soiled and infected materials - safe use and storage of chemicals and cleaning products and detergents - health and safety basic level training.”
