We are seeking a specialist Pharmacist to join the Powys Teaching Health Board Pharmacy team to provide clinical leadership to shape mental health pharmacy services. We are looking for someone with mental health pharmacy experience and strong communication, leadership and organisational skills, who is motivated and passionate about patient care and wants to improve patient services.

Working closely with a dedicated senior pharmacy technician, wider pharmacy/medicines management team and an established and experienced multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and person-centred use of medicines across inpatient wards, community mental health services and will provide support to primary care colleagues around mental health medicines. This is an opportunity to influence strategy, improve patient outcomes, and to optimise psychiatric therapeutics across a whole health system.

The post offers a permanent post of up to 37.5 hours per week, the role will be a Powys wide role with support for inpatient areas within south and mid Powys. There can be flexibility in hours worked and in base within mid or south Powys.

### Main duties of the job

You will support a wide range of mental health services including acute adult and older adult mental health, learning disabilities, community mental health teams, crisis services, substance misuse and dementia care, with links to CAMHS and perinatal services. Key responsibilities include:

- Providing highly specialist expertise and leadership in mental health medicines and psychiatric therapeutics
- Leading the strategic direction for medicines optimisation across all mental health services in Powys
- Delivering and developing clinical pharmacy services across inpatient and community mental health settings
- Overseeing medicines governance, safety, and compliance with legislation and best practice
- Shaping and implementing policies, guidelines, and formulary decisions
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support complex patient care and medication optimisation

- Travel across PTHB sites, community clinics, GP practices, care homes, residential settings and to Wales or UK wide meetings

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant recent experience of working as a senior pharmacist in a mental health setting
- Working directly with clinicians and within a multidisciplinary team
- Dealing with highly complex clinical situations
- Supervising and managing others, developing services and implementing change
- Evidence of leading on policy and procedure development and writing medicines guidelines and protocols
- Educating, training, supervising and evaluating pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals or students

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in undertaking audit and research
- Experience of analysing prescribing data
- Experience of high-level report writing to inform on current practice or to influence change e.g. business cases

### Aptitude & Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate information clearly, accurately and concisely
- Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information to a range of staff groups, patients and service users
- Manage professionally challenging conversations and situations
- Analyse, appraise and interpret highly complex data and evidence where information may be limited and open to differing opinions to make an informed recommendation about medication therapy
- Solve highly complex problems and make effective, prompt decisions when faced with variable, complex information and situations
- Drive the development of mental health pharmacy services in line with local and national objectives and prioritise workload effectively
- Work as part of a team and able to both take and give direction
- Self-motivated, proactive and able to act on own initiative with a significant degree of autonomy
- Motivate, negotiate with and influence, healthcare professionals, senior managers and patients, where there may be conflicting interests or opinions
- Deal sensitively and confidentially with upsetting personal patient information
- Work calmly under pressure and deal with conflicting pressures and deadlines
- Good IT skills including the full Office 365 suite and internet-based databases

**Desirable**

- Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn
- Ability to educate,  train, supervise  and evaluate  pharmacy staff  and other  healthcare  professionals

### Qualifications and / or Knowledge

**Essential**

- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Therapeutics or equivalent
- Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) in Psychiatric Therapeutics (or Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics or CMHP Foundation Certificate and a willingness to work towards the PG Dip)te broad clinical knowledge
- Recognised leadership or managerial development course, or equivalent experience
- Up to date broad clinical knowledge and highly specialist clinical/therapeutic knowledge within the mental health field
- Excellent understanding of pharmacy/medicines and mental health standards, legal requirements and guidelines

**Desirable**

- Associate membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP)
- Associate membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP)
- Membership of the Royal College of Pharmacy
