An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic to join our dietetic team as the Lead Paediatric Dietitian.

You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a changing environment and have good communication skills and provide evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the post.

This post can involve a combination of face to face and remote working subject to agreement and ensuring the needs of the service are able to be met.

### Main duties of the job

Working in partnership with Dietetic colleagues and other health-care professionals, to be responsible for the delivery of the Nutrition and Dietetic service to the  paediatric population in West Norfolk, and parts of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

- To manage a caseload of patients using evidence-based/client centred principles for a range of complex physical and psychological conditions.
- To provide line management and clinical supervision to Junior Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants.
- To be an expert advisor in the nutritional care of patients admitted to hospital.
- To take an active part in the training of student dietitians, all levels of healthcare professionals and medical staff on nutrition and therapeutic diets for patients with a range of complex physical and psychological conditions.
- To lead on risk assessment and management within the department.
- To maintain team working with other Band 7 Dietitians in the general day to day management of the department.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience of working within NHS Paediatric Dietetics.
- Experience of managing own caseload including the management of complex cases and able to support others in effectively managing their caseload.
- Experience of supervising and facilitating a supportive role with students on clinical placements and supervision of staff members.
- Can give examples of quality initiatives to improve the delivery of patient care and own involvement in specific initiatives.
- Experience of looking after complex home enterally fed patients (including those with NG, NJ, PEG, PEG-J, and low-profile devices).

**Desirable**

- Able to demonstrate a variety of dietetics experience including but not limited to: allergy, eating disorders, ASD, ARFID, Coeliac Disease.

### Skills, abilities, and knowledge

**Essential**

- Is able to use behaviour change/ motivational interviewing/ advanced communication skills to support implementation of dietetic treatment plans
- Excellent communication skills and able to communicate effectively with various groups of people including service users and health care professionals, both as individuals and in a group setting. Able to utilise a range of resources to enhance communication if required, e.g. use of an interpreter, visual aids
- Able to work autonomously but also demonstrate a good understanding of team work and how this can be used to improve patient care
- Can demonstrate confidence, leadership and self-motivation
- Uses analytical and problem solving skills to apply to own practice

**Desirable**

- Completion of Behaviour Change Course for Dietitians
- Has evidence of being involved in use of change management skills

### Qualifications/training and professional development

**Essential**

- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or similar non-UK qualification
- Dietitian registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Completion of Supervisory skills course

**Desirable**

- British Dietetic Association (BDA) membership
- Membership of any relevant BDA Specialist Interest Group
