We are seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Clinical Pharmacy Technician to support the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care and the Medicines Management agenda across the UHB.

The post holder will play a key role in the development and delivery of clinical pharmacy services, working closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to promote the safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines.

You will assist in delivering clinical pharmacy services across a range of clinical areas, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate pharmaceutical care. A key responsibility will be to prioritise patients according to clinical need, identify high-risk patients, and take appropriate action through direct intervention or referral to the relevant member of the multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will contribute to medicines optimisation initiatives, support safe prescribing and administration practices, and help ensure compliance with local and national standards. You will also be instrumental in continuing the development of ward-based pharmacy services, driving service improvements and supporting the implementation of new ways of working that enhance patient care and experience.

As a senior member of the pharmacy team, you will provide leadership, guidance and support to colleagues, promoting best practice and continuous improvement. Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, together with a commitment to delivering patient-centred care in a dynamic healthcare environment.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Pharmaceutical Service and the Medicines Management agenda in the UHB.

The post holder will sit on the Medicines Management panel, assisting in the training and assessing of technicians, trainee pharmacists and new pharmacists in the process of ward-based working, including medicines reconciliation and discharge process. In addition, they will support others in developing clinical prioritisation skills.

The post holder will dispense, undertake technical check and issues prescriptions, providing specialist advice and information on medicines to patients, relatives, carers and nursing staff.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. ## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant post qualification pharmacy experience including working as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Experience of training, mentoring and assessing staff.
- Ability to know when to refer to a Pharmacist.
- Ability to manage the day to day provision of pharmacy service within an area.

**Desirable**

- Experience working within surgical wards.
- Experience of supervising/managing and organising ward based medicines management technician teams.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Demonstrable expertise and knowledge of dispensing and checking practices, to Pharmacy Degree Level or equivalent acquired through BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services.
- National Accreditation for Checking Pharmacy Technicians. Medicines Management accreditation.
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
- Good working knowledge of pharmacy procedures and practice.
- Current knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice.
- Basic knowledge of clinical pharmacy.

**Desirable**

- Management qualification.
- PWDS Qualification in Clinical Prioritisation or equivalent.
- Endorsing standards qualification or equivalent.
- BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Pharmacy Clinical Services or equivalent.

- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Motivated.
- Able to prioritise, organise and reallocate daily tasks.
- Accurate and consistent in work application.
- Good physical skills for precise weighing and measuring.
- Able to train, mentor, supervise and assess others in dispensing and checking practices.
- Able to make decisions and solve problems.
- Demonstrated computer skills including word processing and accurate data entry.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills including; calculations, percentages, decimal, fractions.
- Ability to manage a team and work constructively with other disciplines.

**Desirable**

- Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.
