The postholder will provide expert leadership in clinical education across the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring nursing and clinical staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to deliver safe, effective and high‑quality orthopaedic care.

The role will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of Trust‑wide clinical education programmes and competency frameworks, acting as a specialist professional resource and visible clinical role model across all clinical areas.

A core element of this role is to act as the Nursing Lead and Module Leader for the Specialist Education Module, developed and delivered in partnership with an external university and clinical provider.

The postholder will lead the project from development through implementation and will work in partnership with the university and external providers to support the ongoing design, delivery and development of the module, ensuring alignment between academic provision and clinical practice.

Provide Trust wide leadership for clinical education, ensuring staff have the knowledge, skills and competence to deliver safe, effective and high quality care.

Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of clinical education programmes and competency frameworks in line with national guidance and organisational priorities.

Act as Nursing Lead and Module Leader for the specialist education module, working in partnership with university and external providers to ensure alignment between academic delivery and clinical practice.

Provide expert professional advice to senior nurses, clinical leaders and multidisciplinary teams on clinical education, competence development and practice learning environments.

Maintain clinical credibility through planned clinical practice and support staff development, assessment of competence and promotion of evidence based care.

Lead and support preceptorship, student learning and workforce development activity across the Trust, ensuring high quality learning environments and effective support for new and developing staff.

Line manage and develop a team of clinical educators, including responsibility for appraisal, performance management, wellbeing and professional development.

Analyse workforce, education and quality data to identify training needs, risks and improvement opportunities, translating these into prioritised education plans.

**Essential**

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information
- Advanced teaching, facilitation and presentation skills

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- In‑depth knowledge of clinical education principles, learning theory and assessment of competence
- Knowledge of national education and professional standards (eg NMC, HEE, RCN, NICE)
- Understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance and risk in education delivery
- Knowledge of workforce development and clinical competence frameworks
- Working knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and professional codes of conduct
- IT skills sufficient to support education delivery, reporting and communication
- Knowledge of preceptorship frameworks and early‑career practitioner development
- Knowledge of practice learning environments and placement quality requirements
- Knowledge of practice supervision and assessment frameworks

**Desirable**

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant post‑registration experience in a clinical setting relevant to orthopaedics
- Experience of delivering clinical education and training within an NHS environment
- Experience of developing, delivering or evaluating education or training programmes
- Experience supporting staff through clinical competence development or assessment
- Experience working across professional boundaries with multidisciplinary teams
- Experience contributing to service improvement or workforce development initiatives
- Experience supporting students within clinical practice placements
- Experience contributing to or supporting a preceptorship or early‑career practitioner support programme
- Experience working with practice supervisors, practice assessors or placement teams

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with Higher Education Institutions or external education providers
- Experience of curriculum development, module delivery or academic quality processes
- Experience of leading education projects or programmes
- Line management or professional leadership experience

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional with current NMC or HCPC registration
- Degree level education (or equivalent professional experience)
- Recognised teaching and assessing qualification (eg PGCert, or equivalent or working towards)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to clinical education
