The Department of Acute Medicine at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is looking to appoint a Locum Appointed Service (LAS) doctors working at the level of equivalent of ST3+ registrar.  The post is fixed term from 5th August 2026 until 1st December 2026.

Should any further vacancies arise then shortlisted candidates may be considered

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will work part of the AMU team supporting the care we provide to patients by a mix of duties. Typically, our Registrars will be rostered between Acute Take, Post-Take and SDEC duties with supervision and support from the Consultant Acute Physicians who are typically resident 8.30am until 9pm (Monday – Friday).

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Full MRCP or equivalent and up-to-date Advance Life Support certification is essential to the post, and requires the candidate to have “full registration with a licence to practice” with the GMC. If the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The posts are not recognised “training posts” and do not award a National Training Number. Duties are equivalent to the traditional registrar/ST3+ level.

The post holder will work part of the AMU team supporting the care we provide to patients by a mix of duties. Typically, our Registrars will be rostered between Acute Take, Post-Take and SDEC duties with supervision and support from the Consultant Acute Physicians who are typically resident 8.30am until 9pm (Monday – Friday).

- Acute Take (0830 – 1630) – Lead the acute medicine take liaising with the Consultant Acute Physicians, Assess and treat patients in AMU and the ED, provide senior decision-making and support to junior members of the acute take team
- Post Take (0830 – 1630) – Support the Consultant Acute Physicians Post Take ward rounds on AMU including assessing, discussing and reviewing patients with the team, performing and supervising clinical procedures such as lumbar punctures, and supervising the clinical team in the afternoon.
- SDEC (1300 – 2100) – Supporting the Consultant Acute Physician with the management of the SDEC workflow, assessing and treating patients in SDEC, providing senior decision-making and support to junior members of the SDEC team, performing clinical procedures on the unit.

The successful candidates will work along with team of Registrars to provide senior leadership and decision-making to the acute medical take and to provide ambulatory care in SDEC with Consultant support.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise by the date of application
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent by intended start date.
- Full MRCP or equivalent by date of application

**Desirable**

- PG degree/diploma in leadership, education.

### Clinical Experience

**Essential**

- 2 years of General Medicine experience post foundation training programme (or equivalent where applicable)
- 6 months NHS Experience (excluding clinical attachment)

**Desirable**

- Completed ACCS Acute Medicine/IMT/CMT

### Personal attributes

**Essential**

- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013)

### Continuous Professional Development

**Essential**

- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

**Desirable**

- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
