Head & Neck

Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse

30 Hour 12 Month Secondment

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated band 6 to join the Head & Neck ward on a 12 month secondment.

Head and Neck ward is a busy surgical ward that cares for Ear, nose and throat patients and Maxillo-Facial patients across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Mid-Wales.

Patients can be elective theatre patients, emergency clinic and A+E admissions an this is the only surgical ward that looks after patients with Altered airways.

The successful applicant will be a dynamic registered nurse who will assist the ward manager in the smooth running of the unit acute clinical expertise is essential as well as the ability to bring out the best in their team members.

Our nursing values are the 6 Cs and the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse is seen as key to achieving the highest standards of care for our patients. You will need to effectively engage with your patients, peer groups, and service users in all elements of your role, leading by example and promoting a supportive, compassionate and caring culture. This will require a transparent, open approach to your role, whereby you are accountable to others. Rotation onto days, nights, weekends and 12 hour shifts is essential. A flexible nature is required.

### Main duties of the job

- To work according to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines and frameworks including the 6 Cs as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for

The assessment of care and health education needs.

The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.

To demonstrate experience and skills in:

- To ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
- To participate in preceptorship programmes as appropriate and act as a facilitator, mentor, preceptor, role model to less experienced staff
- To provide supervision, support and education to junior staff, unqualified staff and students.
- Develop, lead and manage a patient centred nursing service delivered by professional staff ensuring the highest possible standards of care
- To deputise for the Departmental Manager in her or his absence.
- To manage and develop new clinics and staff working within the area.
- Contribute significantly towards the strategic and operational development of the Unit
- Support the Departmental Manger in the recruitment and selection process of nursing staff
- Support the Departmental Manager in the monitoring of sickness absence

### Job responsibilities
