Job overview

Our strategic vision in the ICT Service is to “Transform patient care, safety and outcomes through digital technology and transformation to enhance ways of working”.

We’re on a mission to deliver major change and propel ICT to become a customer-centric service that leverages technology and innovation to deliver exceptional value to our customers. Through our Digital Strategy “Our Digital Future” we will streamline operations, optimise resources, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Are you ready for the challenge to support this transformation? If so, you’ll be joining the Optimisation Team, reporting to the System Support Lead, and be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving a range of clinical/non-clinical systems used across the organisation. This includes working closely with healthcare professionals to understand their requirements, configuring/optimising systems to meet clinical workflows, and ensuring these systems are reliable, secure, and compliant with patient safety standards.

We’re seeking a proactive, detail-oriented professional experienced in supporting clinical applications in a healthcare setting. You'll be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, use your communication skills to translate technical issues into clear language for clinical staff, and collaborate effectively with teams to ensure changes to clinical systems are understood, adopted smoothly, and support safe/efficient patient care.

Main duties of the job

So what’s it all about, the role:

From diagnosing and resolving issues within clinical applications to supporting user account administration, assisting with system upgrades, and helping to roll out new healthcare technologies, you will play a vital role in ensuring our clinical staff can deliver safe and effective patient care. You will maintain accurate service records, escalate complex issues where needed, and promote best practice in the use of ICT systems. This is a hands-on role where your work will directly contribute to the reliability, security, and performance of our clinical digital services.

What are we looking for, the person:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, customer focused problem solver who thrives in a fast paced clinical environment. You’ll have a natural ability to explain technical matters in a clear, supportive way to healthcare staff of all technical abilities. You will be adaptable, organised, and able to prioritise tasks to meet tight clinical and operational deadlines. A team player with a positive attitude, you’ll take ownership of your work and be eager to develop your skills in line with evolving both national and local digital systems, in line with patient care needs.

Experience:You’ll bring proven experience of providing ICT support within a healthcare or similarly regulated environment, ideally within a large or complex organisation. You will be confident in supporting and maintaining clinical systems such as Electronic Patient Records (EPR), Patient Administration Systems (PAS), diagnostic reporting systems, and other NHS digital applications. A solid understanding of operating systems, networking principles, and information governance requirements in a healthcare context is essential.

Experience of using a service desk system to log, track, and resolve incidents is required, along with the ability to work to ITIL based processes. Knowledge of NHS data standards, clinical workflows, and the integration of systems across different care settings would be an advantage – though full training on local systems will be provided.

What we can offer you in return…

In addition to the competitive salary you'll also receive:

Up to 34 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays

Generous employer pension contributions

Agile and flexible working options

Membership of the British Computer Society

Car leasing options

Cycle 2 Work scheme
