### Job summary

The General Practitioner specialising in Substance Misuse provides clinical assessment, and treatment for individuals experiencing drug dependency. The GP will support newly referred patients through harm reduction, detoxification, stabilisation, and recovery programmes, ensuring evidence-based medical treatment

The role involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, recovery workers, and pharmacists to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

### Main duties of the job

- Provide comprehensive medical assessments for newly referred individuals from the court or release from custody who require clinical substance misuse concerns
- Diagnose and manage drug dependency.
- Initiate and manage opioid substitution therapy (OST) including:
- Prescribe medication in line with UK clinical guidelines and NICE recommendations.
- Monitor patients undergoing medically assisted withdrawal and stabilisation.
- Provide harm reduction advice including naloxone distribution and overdose prevention.
- Conduct regular patient reviews and medication monitoring.
- Order via their GPs, relevant blood tests or other investigations
