## Job Content

### Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Radiographer to join our friendly multi-disciplinary team based at UHW. What makes this position unique, is that we are the only centre in Wales that provides a 24/7 Interventional Radiology service for Cardiology and Vascular specialties.

Within Radiology (IR), to align with major trauma and vascular centralisation, and while UHW strives to become a regional acute stroke unit, we are upskilling our team of Radiographers in preparation for advanced roles. Within Cardiology (IC), as well as highly complex interventional, structural and ablation procedures, we are now undertaking specialist procedures such as pulmonary thrombectomy, mitral clipping and renal nerve denervation. This means that the successful candidate will be uniquely specialised in a field of Radiology rarely encountered elsewhere in the country.

Working in both interventional areas, you will receive the comprehensive training necessary to develop your team-working, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. By using the latest digital imaging equipment, and working alongside highly skilled, knowledgeable peers and colleagues, you will develop the skills and confidence required to manage busy lists, work autonomously and supervise/train students and other staff. As part of this MDT, you will participate in the out-of-hours on call service; ensuring the most expedient and appropriate care is provided as soon as possible to improve patient outcomes.

### Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be working within IR and IC as part of highly skilled MDTs. You will operate complex equipment to provide the imaging necessary to diagnose and treat vascular disease and abnormalities, while providing exemplary patient-centred care. Working as part of a team delivering complex interventions, it is important for you to have emotional maturity and integrity; to be kind, empathetic and respectful, as well as have excellent communication and organisational skills. We work collaboratively with other medical and surgical specialties to provide an outstanding service that we are proud of. UHW is a teaching hospital and so you will teach and supervise a variety of students and trainees from various specialties, delegating duties, and managing workload appropriately.

As a high-dose clinical area, you will be expected to operate within IR(ME)R17 and IRR17 guidelines to protect yourself, other staff, patients and visitors. You will learn the operational capabilities and limitations of the equipment, therefore being able to problem-solve and adapt techniques to overcome challenges, including fault reporting – liaising with industry technicians and engineers to facilitate system assessments and repairs. Personal and professional development in such a demanding role is vital; you will be expected to undertake CPD, and to contribute to service improvement and audit, and the production and management of written procedures associated with all aspects of your work.
