Head to Toe is the charity of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). We provide additional support and services that enhance the outstanding work of NHS colleagues delivering physical health, mental health and social care services throughout the region.

Working in partnership with frontline healthcare teams, we fund innovative projects, initiatives and services that improve patient experience, wellbeing and outcomes. Our mission is to enhance the lives of patients, service users and staff by providing resources and opportunities beyond what can be funded through core NHS budgets.

We are now seeking an experienced charity leader to join us as Interim Head of Charity (Maternity Cover) and help drive the next phase of our development.

### Main duties of the job

As Interim Head of Charity (Maternity Cover), you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Head to Toe, ensuring the charity delivers maximum benefit for patients, service users and staff while maintaining the highest standards of governance, accountability and impact.

Reporting to the Head to Toe Charity Committee, as a Sub-Committee of the Trust’s Board, and working closely with the Trust's Executive Team, you will act as the charity's lead ambassador, building strong relationships with stakeholders, supporters and partners, while raising the profile of the charity across the Trust and wider community.

You will lead a small, dedicated team and oversee all aspects of the charity's fundraising, grant-making, communications, governance and financial management.

As Interim Head of Charity, you will have the chance to shape strategy, grow support, strengthen partnerships and deliver lasting impact for patients, families and staff across our communities.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Development

- Provide strategic and operational leadership for Head to Toe Charity, ensuring delivery of its vision, objectives and long-term sustainability.
- Advise the Board of Directors and Executive Team on charity-related matters and emerging opportunities.
- Develop and deliver strategic and operational plans that strengthen the charity's impact, profile and financial sustainability.
- Build strong relationships across CPFT to embed the charity within the Trust's culture, priorities and values.

Fundraising and Income Generation

- Lead the development and delivery of ambitious fundraising and income generation strategies to support services and projects beyond NHS core funding.
- Grow support from individuals, community groups, businesses, major donors and high-net-worth individuals.
- Develop and maintain successful relationships with grant-making trusts and foundations, securing funding for priority projects and initiatives.
- Identify and develop new income streams, partnerships and philanthropic opportunities.
- Oversee fundraising campaigns, events, appeals and supporter stewardship, ensuring excellent donor experiences and long-term engagement.
- Use data, insight and performance reporting to drive fundraising growth and inform decision-making.

Charity Impact and Grant Making

- Ensure charitable funds are invested effectively to maximise benefit for patients, service users and staff.
- Lead a transparent, proactive and equitable grant-making programme aligned to organisational priorities.
- Support staff in developing high-quality funding applications and accessing charitable funding opportunities.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on funded projects, supporting teams to deliver agreed outcomes and develop sustainable plans beyond charitable investment.
- Use evidence, insight and stakeholder feedback to inform funding priorities and demonstrate the charity's impact.

### Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant recent and relevant charity experience.
- Demonstrable track record of leading, developing and retaining a team of dedicated staff within a complex organisation, with accountability to multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrable track record of income generation at a senior level.
- Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of excellent donor care and stewardship and/or customer service.
- Experience of working with and supporting third party fundraisers and volunteers, managing and monitoring fundraising campaigns, events and appeals.

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in a healthcare charity or similar.

### Skills & Abilities

**Essential**

- High level of report writing and presentation skills to convey complex information at senior level, including executive, staff and public groups.
- Strong communication skills and high level of skill in stakeholder engagement with leading clinicians and professionals, staff, the public and internal/external stakeholders.
- Experience of market segmentation, donor development, designing, implementing and evaluating fundraising appeals, PR, engagement and marketing strategies.
- Budgetary management skills.

**Desirable**

- Excellent strategic financial planning and awareness skills.

### Knowledge & Understanding

**Essential**

- Knowledge/experience of the NHS or healthcare sector.
- Highly developed in-depth specialist knowledge and experience in several disciplines within a charity setting.
- Fully conversant and up to date with best practice and law in charitable fundraising, fundraising and information governance legislation and codes of practice.

**Desirable**

- Working knowledge of database management at a high level and with the ability to train others.

### Education / Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to degree level (or qualification of similar standing) OR equivalent level of work experience including practical knowledge of the operations of NHS charities.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.

**Desirable**

- Qualifications or experience in Public Relations and/or Marketing.
