### Job overview

New Beginnings is a specialist detoxification unit for drug and alcohol service users combined with a structured day programme accessible to service users undergoing detoxification. The staff on the detoxification unit work as part of an integrated team with the structured day care staff to offer a comprehensive and seamless programme to service users.

The post holder will provide high quality support services as part of the inpatient clinical team and structured day programme within Aspire New Beginnings.

To support the clinical and the wider New Beginnings team in the delivery of the service, whilst performing a range of duties under the direction of the nurse/manager in charge.

To act as first point of contact for the service providing an effective information service for professionals and service users.

If you don't already have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH are offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification \[relevant to your role\].

As an apprentice within RDaSH you will be given the opportunity to gain experience, learn work-related skills and obtain all the tools needed to thrive.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide comprehensive, high quality support services to the clinical team, under direct supervision, to ensure the smooth safe delivery of services.
- To support the team in the admissions and discharge process and facilitation of both clinics and group work sessions with patients.
- To support the clinical team by completing appropriate screening tools and records prior to consultations/ admission taking place.
- To give verbal and written feedback to senior clinicians in respect of patients individual care plans.
- To escort patients to outside appointments.
- To undertake collection of samples and specimens from patients and test as directed, sending samples for testing to the pathology department when required.
- To assist the Nurse to conduct physical health checks and the management of symptoms through appropriate care planning.
- To provide advice and information to service users about the range of services on offer both within the statutory and non-statutory sector and assist service users in accessing these.
- To provide harm minimisation advice and promote healthier lifestyles.
- To provide access to activities and support patients in cooking and other life skills.
- To deliver an agreed programme of supported group activities at the weekend.
- To support service users during their detoxification to maximise their recovery.
- Ensure that appropriate communications are actioned and documented on the clinical database (SystemOne)

### Qualifications

- English and Maths at level 2 or equivalent (GCSE 9-4 or A*- C or functional skills level 2)
- NVQ Level 2 in a related subject
- NVQ level 3 in related subject or willingness to undertake a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship
