The post holder will work closely with the General Manager, the Head of Nursing for Inpatient Services, and alongside the SATs services Matron.   You will be responsible for; the clinical and operational oversight of four secure wards, direct line management of ward managers, clinical leads and be an active member of their multidisciplinary team processes.   The post holder will be expected to demonstrate strong nursing leadership and provide highly specialist advice in the field of inpatient secure services care.

This role offers the opportunity to engage in collaborative approaches across the trust, liaising with   nursing lead peers from across the organisation and to be part of the wider Reach Out provider collaborative.

### Main duties of the job

The Matron will provide senior clinical and operational leadership and supervision for ward inpatient teams to drive continually improving and high standards of clinical care. They will lead and drive quality improvement approaches to improve and sustain standards on the wards. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded.

The post holder will provide visible leadership and be available to ward staff, patients and carers and be responsive to their experiences of care and concerns in the ward environment. Each post holder will work as part of the collaborative clinical leadership team across LD inpatient services providing, the foundation for strong, safe and effective multi-professional team development across all LD wards.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the Head of Nursing, Associate Director of Nursing, General Manager and the Director of Operations to deliver strong and effective clinical leadership to deliver a positive working environment and quality clinical outcomes.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a key member of the directorate leadership team, the post holder will use their significant clinical and operational experience to provide knowledge to facilitate consistent best practice care at practice level in support of continuously improving clinical outcomes.

They will act as a role model for ward staff demonstrating and promoting the organisation’s core values, beliefs and professional behaviours. The postholder will work alongside nursing and other clinical staff in planning care and risk management for individuals and their families, taking an active role when this is required.

It is expected that the Matron will promote awareness of clinical and non-clinical risk amongst all staff.  This will include taking a key role in the future shaping and development of the Services as well as day to day management of senior ward staff. They will ensure that own clinical practice is kept up to date by working clinically for a minimum of 2 days a month, working clinically on the wards, supporting with complex cases, role modelling and support junior staff members. Ensure all local, Trust and national clinical guidelines and policies are implemented and to support the Head of Nursing and other key clinical leads in implementing NICE Guidance.

Matrons will work to deliver on the Quality Strategy across the LDA directorate and will be responsible for supporting clinical practice development and ensuring that the fundamentals of care are right and that clinical innovations are rolled out in a timely and managed way.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable experience across learning disability and/or related services
- Relevant experience of managing clinical services, stakeholder management; and partnership working at a senior level both internally and externally
- Significant senior management experience within a range of clinical settings.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to a Masters level or demonstrable knowledge at the same level
- Evidence of other leadership training and commitment to personal development
- Registered learning disability or mental health nurse with significant post-qualification experience in Learning Disabilities
- Extensive operational experience in a clinical setting
