About the Role

As the Information Governance Validation and Release Manager, you will lead and manage the validation, review and release of information in response to statutory, legal and regulatory requirements, including:

- Subject Access Requests (SARs)
- Coroner's requests
- Legal disclosures
- Police requests
- External investigations and inquiries
- Requests from regulatory and oversight bodies
- Third-party information requests and information sharing arrangements

### Main duties of the job

- Lead the operational management of information validation and release services across UHSussex.
- Ensure compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Common Law Duty of Confidentiality and NHS Information Governance requirements.
- Manage and develop a team responsible for validating and releasing information.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on complex disclosure and information-sharing decisions.
- Oversee responses to Subject Access Requests, legal disclosures, coroner requests and external investigations.
- Ensure statutory and organisational deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and guidance relating to information disclosure and release.
- Support the investigation and management of information governance incidents, concerns and breaches.
- Build effective relationships with clinical, operational and corporate teams across the Trust.
- Produce management reports, performance metrics and assurance information for senior leaders and governance committees.

You will provide operational leadership to a specialist team, ensuring all disclosures are processed lawfully, accurately and within required timescales. Working closely with clinical services, legal teams, records teams and corporate departments, you will ensure robust governance processes are maintained whilst protecting patient confidentiality and supporting organisational accountability.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This vacancy is advertised as a time-limited opportunity is expected to be undertaken on a secondment basis for internal applicants. Before applying, internal colleagues must discuss the opportunity with their current line manager to confirm whether they can be released from their substantive role if successful. Release to undertake a secondment is not automatic and must be agreed between the colleague, their current line manager, and the recruiting line manager.

- Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, or inspections.

**Essential**

- Expert knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information Act. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret complex legislation and guidance.
- Advanced report writing and presentation skills. Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Advanced data validation, data analysis and performance reporting skills. Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.

**Desirable**

- PRINCE II or equivalent
- Experience of business intelligence and reporting systems.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capability.
- Microsoft Office 365 Records Management, security, confidentiality and retention and disposal.

### Experience/ Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent specialist experience.
- Significant senior-level Information Governance experience within the NHS or a highly regulated environment.
- Experience managing Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information requests and complex disclosure processes.
- Experience supporting investigations, inquiries, inspections or regulatory reviews.
- Experience analysing complex datasets and producing management information.
- Experience drafting policies, procedures and governance documentation.
- Experience managing staff and service performance.

**Desirable**

- Qualification in Project Management
- Leadership and Management qualification.
- Experience supporting maternity investigations or national reviews.
- Experience of collating evidence for DSPT CAF- Objective E-Using and sharing information appropriately.

- Experience of supervising or managing staff.

- Ability to lead service improvement and change initiatives.
