### Job overview

The post holder will work within North London Foundation Trust with the role primarily based at Chase Building, Chase Farm Hospital as a Senior Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurse. The post holder will be expected to travel as required across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey with some cross working within Camden and Islington locations to support the wider IPC service.

This is a fixed term 12-month contract to provide maternity cover.

- Contribute to the development of any processes/procedures and monitor compliance with national standards of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). This includes The Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections, National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) and IPC Education Framework.
- Provide specialist expert advice to prevent and control infections using evidence-based practice including outbreak management.
- Support best practice in IPC at all times, professionally challenging as required.
- Implementation of local and national guidance working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Surveillance, analysis and interpretation of infection data.
- Education and training of staff and service users.
- Participation in Vaccination campaigns
- Auditing of clinical practice and the built environment

The post holder will provide specialist infection prevention and control (IPC) support across the organisation, working as part of the wider IPC team to promote high standards of practice and patient safety.

They will act as a source of expert advice to clinical and non-clinical staff, supporting the implementation of national and local IPC guidance, investigation and management of infections and outbreaks, and promoting compliance with best practice.

The role includes surveillance and analysis of infection data, delivery of education and training, and contribution to audit and quality improvement activity.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Qualified Registered Nurse
- Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience of teaching
- BSc or post graduate education in infection prevention and control or working towards

**Desirable**

- Masters level study in related IPC subject or willing to work towards
- Infection Prevention Society (IPS) Competencies completed/working towards at this level
- Leadership qualification or working towards

### Skills/Abilities

**Essential**

- Experience of writing policies or guidelines
- Quality Improvement and Change Initiatives
- Good IT skills and ability to navigate key systems e.g. Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience in report writing and presentation
- Audit and surveillance experience
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to interpret, present and discuss complex information in accessible formats
- Demonstrable understanding of governance processes and contributions to these at a senior level
- Effectively articulate the contribution of IPC practice to the patient and staff safety
- Demonstrates good leadership skills at all levels to clinical and non-clinical staff
- Good communication and interpersonal skills through a range of mediums
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Understand and interpret research, implementation of recommendations to improve IPC practice
- Sound knowledge of external sources of information and application to the service

- Comprehensive nursing experience in a variety of settings
- Recent considerable experience in IPC at Band 6 level or above
- Robust clinical knowledge and practice relating to IPC matters
- Designing, delivery and evaluation of educational teaching programmes
- Use of national and local policy/guidance to inform IPC practice

**Desirable**

- Experience of working as an IPCN in mental health/learning disability settings
