This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse to join our infant feeding team who have a vision to develop and maintain high standards of care for women, children, and young people.  The role requires the individual to have advanced experience of working with mothers and children’s and supporting feeding. The individual will need to be enthusiastic, energetic, and passionate about good quality care for women, children, and young people. We are developing our Infant Feeding Team at BCH to provide the best possible infant feeding advice and support to families.

We currently have a fixed term vacancy 30hrs per week.

The post holder will be working as part of the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital Infant Feeding Team, contributing to all aspects of the service, but focusing on infant feeding support at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

### Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced registered Nurse who:

Has specialist knowledge of the Baby friendly initiative and can help support the implementation of standards.

Has a keen interest in ensuring high standards of care and support for patients who are breastfeeding their babies.

Will provide expert knowledge, support, and advice to staff across the trust and be happy to deliver education in a classroom setting.

Will provide direct support to patients with feeding problems as required.

## Person Specification

### QUALIFICATIONS

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife/Nurse
- Degree in Midwifery/Nursing or relevant subject

**Desirable**

- Additional Breastfeeding qualification eg IBCLC, LLL leader, NCT/BfN Breastfeeding Counsellor
- Breastfeeding and Relationship Building (BF77)
- Train the Trainer (BF85)

### ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS

**Essential**

- Ability to evaluate and assess breastfeeding

**Desirable**

- Practice in others as well as work reflectively
- Participation in evaluation and audit

### KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Experience of working in acute and critical care
- Recent experience in supporting infant feeding in a neonatal unit or paediatric hospital setting
- Knowledge of current national initiatives and recommendations regarding feeding for infants and young children in maternity care
- Knowledge of BFI requirements/standards
- Knowledge of: breastfeeding physiology, management, support and promotion
- Able to work in a team
- Experience of teaching and mentoring

### PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

**Essential**

- Extensive infant feeding knowledge
- Basic IT skills
