### Experience

**Essential**

- Proven record of NHS clinical leadership experience with specialist knowledge in the delivery of clinical Urgent & Emergency Care services in the Ambulance Sector
- In depth knowledge across a number of disciplines within the NHS sector, including clinical service management, consultancy, information systems, staff and financial management.
- Experience of successfully delivering against complex KPIs and improving clinical and/or operational efficiency of staff and services
- Experience of managing high performing clinical and operational facing teams.
- Experience of clinical practice development and applying improvement methodologies
- Demonstrable experience of developing and leading the clinical governance agenda
- Experience of appraising Executives, Board members, and/or senior managers of the respective merits of different options and potential opportunities
- Experience of negotiating and establishing effective partnerships with local service providers, clinical networks, system providers/partners and trade unions.
- Experience of collaboration with other NHS ambulance services, commissioners, STP/ICS leads, wider NHS providers and others key stakeholders e.g. Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, NHS England and NHS Improvement
- Good understanding of the social, political, financial and business issues facing the NHS Ambulance Sector.
- Experience of developing strategic direction and/or experience in strategic planning.
- Experience of leading transformation and/or organisational change in post
- Experience of managing financial resources/budgets at an area or locality level.

- Ability to develop strategic priorities & plans, organise staff and resources (through both influence and control) to achieve high quality patient care and delivery of quality targets
- Able to deal with a number of competing priorities and deadlines on a day-to-day basis, allocating or delegating work to others as necessary
- Ability to demonstrate clinical and personal credibility to a range of internal and external stakeholders, forging productive long-term relationships
- Ability to network and forging sustainable, productive relationships at all levels within the local, regional and national health and care economy
- Able to drive leading edge clinical practice, supported by advanced theoretical and practical knowledge
- Skilled in negotiating, shaping and influencing service development involving partner agencies, system providers, regulators and key system leaders
- Able to proactively plan and deliver clinical services & systems that are value for money
- Ability to handle and analyse highly complex information and deliver key messages to a range of staff, including experienced clinicians and managers
- Skilled in managing complex situations in the clinical practice and patient facing setting, including those where no obvious solution may exist
- Developed written, verbal and IT based communication skills (e.g. in report writing)

- Experience in the application of HR processes

- Capable of participating in an Area level on-call roster

### Qualification and Knowledge

- Educated to Master’s degree level, or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior clinical level and willing to complete a Master’s degree in post.
- Post-graduate management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience in post
- Evidence of relevant continuous professional development; ideally covering clinical leadership, clinical service development and leading change
- NARU occupational standards Strategic or Tactical Commander accreditation, or willing to complete this training upon commencement in post
