You will be involved in the cleaning, inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical equipment for supply to Wards, Departments, Theatres and Endoscopy. Successful candidates will require attention to detail & an eagerness and ability to learn. A comprehensive in house training programme is in operation which successful candidates will be expected to take part in and complete. The role is physically demanding, lifting and handling heavy instrument sets and long periods of standing. It is necessary to transport theatre equipment around the hospital using trolleys. As a clinical support service the department is operational 6 days a week, supported by an on-call service to meet the demands of the hospital. Physical properties to be assessed. v Inspect decontamination equipment (Autoclaves and Washer/Disinfectors) for any change in condition i.e., steam leaks or build-up of scale of the autoclaves. v Demonstrate a broad knowledge of surgical instruments and be able to identify surgical instruments and advise end users where commonly held instruments/alternatives can be found. v Monitor decontamination equipment (sterilisers and washer/disinfectors) to ensure that decontamination parameters are met v Responsible for final product release – assessing multiple sets of data and physical characteristics to release equipment for surgery Please refer to the Job Description for further details ## Person Specification ### Experience **Desirable** - Previous sterile services experience - Experience of interpreting results for product release - Familiar with medical devices / surgical instrumentation - Ability to work in a team - Ability to perform routine tasks in specified standards - Ability to work accurately - Ability to achieve strict deadlines - Ability to problem solve ### Communication **Essential** - Strong interpersonal skills - Ability to absorb and act on instruction ### Qualifications and knowledge **Essential** - Willing to train further in Decontamination sciences - Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, which require a base level of theoretical knowledge.
