### Job overview

- hours per week – 08:00 to 21:30 hours 365 days a year

To work as a member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team reporting back to colleagues, both verbally and in writing and seeking advice, guidance and support where necessary.

To provide each patient for whom they are a Lead Professional with an agreed care plan, containing review dates, in accordance with Community Mental Health Nurse and Care Programme Approach standards.

To actively seek to contribute to setting standards of care, to generate and implement quality initiatives.

To promote compliance with medication and other treatments prescribed, noting and reporting non-compliance and side effects as appropriate.

To develop and maintain healthy partnerships with all stakeholders including statutory, third sector and voluntary agencies.

To advise patients, carers and significant others of the available resources. Referring assessed need to those agencies best able to meet these in the community and facilitate use of these recourses.

To understand the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, Care Programme Approach, Deprivation of Liberty safeguards as it applies to a psychiatric liaison service.

To carry out the duties of a Lead Professional as appropriate following the principles of CPA.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Ability to use initiative and work without immediate supervision
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding, empathic approach
- Skills in co-ordinating and planning interagency approaches in mental health care
- An understanding of current mental health issues
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework for mental health services, particularly the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
- Knowledge and understanding of the roles of other professionals working within mental health

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable post registration experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Professional experience of working in mental health
- Experience of MDT working
- Skills in coordinating and planning inter-agency approaches in mental health care
- Experience of assessing and managing risk

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in the community.
- Previous experience within an assessment / liaison workplace.
- Experience of working with statutory and non statutory agencies.
- Experience of working at a Band 6 level.
- Experience of delivering evidence-based treatments.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Mental Health Nurse and current professional registration with the NMC or registered allied health professional.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- ENB 998 or other NMC approved mentor qualification
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and IT Level 2 or equivalent
- Risk Assessment and Management Training
- Suicide Prevention Training
- Supervision Training

### Skills/ Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent report-writing skills
- IT skills
- Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team
- Understanding of the CPA process
- Excellent assessment skills, including risk assessment
- Understanding of the importance of user/carer involvement in care planning
- Experience of Safeguarding

**Desirable**

- Skills in CBT.
- Ability to work in a changing environment.
- Ability to elaborate on the translation of personal and professional skills into practice.
